Power too hard to replace, and Bell also plays OF can play a corner well and his high energy personality is needed in clubhouse. And Glasnows stuff is just plain filthy. He struggled a bit but that comes with age, he's going to be real deal

I think they'd prefer to keep Meadows as opposed to Bell.  I think anyone else they might do it.
But in the end I don't think they'll make this deal.

I think a lot of it has to do with the uncertainty of McCutchen. I don't think they would have flirted with trading McCutchen as much as they have been without thinking they have a viable in-house replacement.

Pirates have re-signed starting pitcher Ivan Nova to a three year 26 million dollar deal. The starting pitching market is rather thin and there has been a lot of overspending on average guys.  Considering that, 3 years for 26 million doesn't seem so bad to me.

Ivan Nova isn't a star, but he can eat innings. The Pirates need some stability in their rotation after last year's revolving door of pitchers. The Pirates received some good starts from Nova down the stretch, and maybe getting out of the AL East is what this guy needs.  I'm not sure if the Quintana deal is still in their minds, but it would make the rotation that much better.

So what do we think right now?

1. Cole
2. Taillon
3. Nova
4. Kuhl
5.  Glasnow/Brault/Williams/Kingham/Hutchison.

Quintana would certainly make things a lot better and a lot more stable.

If we see the return of the Cole Train, I'm happy with this starting rotation. They can only go up and I think these young guns have some serious potential.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Pirates are still pursuing Jose Quintana even after the Nova acquisition.

I really think the backlash the team received when it was actively trying to trade Andrew McCutchen has led to a drastic change in the team's plan.

Acquiring Quintana or Chris Archer could very well be the final piece.

I think I would prefer Quintana just because we have a lot of rightys in the rotation but archer is electric.

The Pirates have never seemed to worry about fan backlash before, doubt they'd start now. I still think trading McCutchen is a realistic outcome, depending on the return.
