I think the plan is to do Bell at 1B this year.  They have Jaso working at third and in the outfield, so that tells me they don't anticipate him playing full-time 1B.

"yanks get Cutch, bucs get Quintana, Sox get Glasnow and Yanks top pick Rutherford"

So it would be one of the Pirates' top players and their # 1 prospect for a number 3 starter.  The Bucs better get something else in return or that is a B-A-D deal.

What I saw there were others involved, bucs getting Brett Gardner as well--- which I'm not that tickled about

Just questioning the FO's thinking on this potential deal.    Why in the world would the Pirates want to take on a 33 year old Gardner with a .264 career batting average and his 12.5 mill salary?   Just to get the Quintana deal done??? That makes little sense.

If Gardner's salary was in the 6-8 mill range, I could see the reasoning but not for a salary that is only  1.7 mill less than they are paying Cutch.

I wouldn't say Quintana is a number 3 starter, he would've been the Pirates best pitcher last season. With Cole's health in question he'd be their best pitcher this season as well.  He was an all-star last year and was top ten in the AL last season in ERA and innings pitched.  He's a lot better than people realize.

To expand on Crimsons assessment , Quintana has the worst run support in mlb the last 4 years. If he'd have gotten 4 runs/game , he'd have won 20+ all 4 years

If the Pirates want Quintana they should offer the prospects the White Sox want.  There is no need to involve a third team.  Especially if you have to trade Andrew McCutchen and receive a high priced, inferior player in return.

I agree, if you are going to trade Cutch I want someone like Steven Matz not an outfielder that's not anything special.

Agreed. But I bet if Gardner heads this way, the Yanks will eat most of the 12 mil

Saying he would have been the Pirates best pitcher last season is not saying much though.  There were probably 90-100 other starters in the majors we could say that about.    No doubt Quintana is a quality pitcher, but if they are giving up that much they better be darn sure they are getting a top of the rotation guy in return.
