Re: Pitt Stripe Out

I remember this game as if it were yesterday. October 9, 2004. Penn State was struggling at 2-3. They were hosting Purdue and things weren't looking good with 4 minutes left in the game, with the Nits trailing 17-13. The boilermakers then kicked a field goal to go up 20-13. With 59 seconds left, PSU takes the kick-off and starts their drive at their own 30. Zach Mills quarterbacked the whole game. PSU reaches the 50 yardline with 3 seconds left after a Mills incomplete pass stopped the clock. Sitting on the bench was a highly recruited true freshman QB Anthony Morelli, who had NEVER appeared in a college game. The great Joe Paterno decides to bring him into the game for ONE play. Morelli takes the snap and heaves one toward the endzone. The pass falls incomplete. PSU loses the game 20-13. Paterno BLOWS Morelli's redshirt. He could have been great, if he would have had that ONE year back. Instead, after he graduated, no one ever heard of him again. Great decision, JoePa.

Hopefully Pickett doesn't follow in Morelli's footsteps.

I'm glad you had to go back to 2004, 13 years ago to find an example of psu doing the same thing pitt just did. Max Browne had no business starting at all for Pitt, it should have been either Ben or McVitti (spelling). Just goes to show those 5 stars mean nothing when you can't preform on the field.

No, Browne should have been the starter all along. MacVittie is bad, and DiNucci can't throw. MacVittie may move to tight end in the offseason. I get what you mean however about not starting a senior transfer, but options were limited. They wouldn't have brought him in if they thought one of those guys could handle it.

Pickett is the QB of the future.

Hey GoldenRamsFan: What's the difference WHEN my story was. It happened. Even the great JoePa pulled a boner once in a while. But in THIS case, he made a BAD decision which cost a young man a year of eligibility. Narduzzi had NO choice inserting Pickett into the game. BIG difference.

Close game. Pitt only lost by 3. You put your BEST player into the game. You DON'T put either the other two guys in in that situation. Can you imagine the media if he had done so? You two last posters have got to wake up.

This was going to be a losing season for pitt moldy... Why waste a year for a top player if you arent going to win with it???

It was a close game cool but 1 game isnt a good reason to lose a strong potential season. You're trolling is too good.
