Yeah but in baseball it's not always head to head, it's total body of work. And losing to bad teams is a sign of being a bad team, isn't it?

Would you trade Andrew Cahsner for Anthony Rizzo?

Would you trade Jason Hammel for Addison Russell?

Would you trade R.A. Dickey for Noah Syndergaard?

Seems like the Cubs and Mets were able to turn established major leaguers for core pieces for years to come.

You forgot the part where they signed and added top established talents to their roster too... Guessing John Lester was a big prospect for the cubs too

What does Jon Lester have to do with Addison Russell being traded to the Cubs? He signed with them as a free agent.

Because thats the real issue. The cubs had talent but got where they are because they invested in top free agents. The pirates do not do that so do not act like its rebuilding and talent alone.
Justin Verlander was a great addition to the astros... These are things Pirates could be doing or done but have shown theyll never do

I'm probably the biggest Pirates defender and apologist on here consistently. And I realize it's just not happening for this group this season. They need to get out from some of these contracts and start fresh.

If you like Rivero, Bell, Williams, Kuhl and whoever?  That's fine, they'll still be part of the team going forward.

It's just being realistic that they aren't going to sign Gerrit Cole or Andrew McCutchen beyond their current deals.

So in order to help Josh Bell, Jameson Taillon, and Felipe Rivero, would you rather get them multiple young players to join in on that process, or give them no help and pray it all comes from the minor leaguers they have currently?

I mean, I THINK it would be a good thing to get 3-4 talent young guys under the age of 25 for Gerrit Cole than NOTHING at all once he signs somewhere else.

Call me crazy....

Not while my team was still in contention for a wild card.

What good is Rivero if you're rebuilding?

Would you improve a 98 win season by giving Pedro Alvarez away for nothing and signing John Jaso?
