Blairsville or LV reached out and agreed to play a JV game this past Saturday morning. At least both school's JVs got to have a game.

That was scheduled prior to the season and not in response to Saltsburg cancelling.  One way LV develops its players is by maximizing JV opportunities...they will play Berlin's JV twice this year (first weekend of the season, because HC said it was "too early" to play JV), played Blairsville this past Saturday b/c Penns Manor won't play JV against LV, and LV is traveling to Hollidaysburg on Monday to play a JV game.  It's another reason the program is successful.
With 9th graders on varsity rosters, it's tough to get them to come out when there's almost no chance they'll play Friday nights.  They deserve the opportunity to play - some schools value their JV and Varsity program development enough to make sure they fill that schedule for the young kids to gain experience, learn, and have fun...thus keeping numbers up.

Didn't know that. Good for LV and good for Blairsville for accepting the invitation to play.

If Saltsburg forfeited the game because of low numbers, maybe it’s time to shelve their football program and send their athletes to Blairsville. If it is their fear of being humiliated, then shame on them! Little Laurel Valley played whoever was on their schedule, despite being one of the smallest football playing schools in the state. LV never ran and hid from anyone! They were enthusiastic, when the Appalachian Conference realigned and they were placed in the precursor to the Heritage. That was where the traditional powers and larger schools were. Heck, :ymsick: LV and NC were not even a part of the decision to form the Heritage and to oust BC. Both of those schools were fortunate to be asked to join the new conference. Ligonier was asked to join at that time and has been a good fit. Has Ligonier won the championship every year? Absolutely not! Will this string of championship seasons continue for ever? Absolutely not! A short few years ago, one of the smallest schools in the conference was dominating and Liggy couldn’t beat them. I am amused every time, that this Ligonier in the Heritage Conference topic comes up. The LHAC’s classifications range from “A” to “AAAA”.....and all you hear is crickets. Ligonier’s inclusion in the Heritage has been good for both parties. The league president, Jody Rainey, has stated that the conference is united. LV won’t be asked to leave. In fact, he said that Saltsburg has been presented with three options, which he wouldn’t divulge. Glenn Richards lamented that Ligonier’s boys lifted and that his kids couldn’t, because they had no weight room. Who’s fault is that? They evidently have poor boosters. Laurel Valley had a fine weight room and it was provided by the LV Boosters and football parents. The message that Glenn Richards has sent to his players is disturbing...if you can’t win, you quit. What he has done, is so unfair to both squads! Ligonier now has a total of three home games. That is sad! It will be really interesting, to see if Saltsburg will forfeit any of it’s remaining games. The bottom line, in all of this, is that Ligonier was asked to join the conference and accepted. The LVSD Board of education has decided that this where they want their athletes to compete. All the boys do is to play every team that is their schedule. Shame on Saltsburg for denying the Ligonier kids from performing in front of their home crowd! The Heritage schools have no intention of asking LV to leave. Saltsburg has some decisions to make. They should either make the decision to disband their program or to have Glenn Richards do the necessary things to enable the Trojans to compete. No more forfeits! End of story!

Heard today that there has been some discussion about adding  BC or possibly Cambria Heights or Blacklick Valley  :-? to gauge interest if they were to end up without Saltsburg in the Heritage next year.  This might get interesting yet.

And NC was part of the push to oust BC, so check your Facts.
Ligonier Valley wasn't but Laurel Valley voted yes at the time
West Shamokin was not involved.

Sorry, but LV was asked to join the new conference as well as NC. IF I remember right sir, you are a big Husky supporter. How were you privy to the vote to oust the private school from an “A” and “AA” conference? Just where are you getting your facts?

I can guarantee that BC will never find a home in the Heritage conference. I can see BV or Cambria Heights, maybe even Apollo Ridge. However, why would the Heritage even entertain admitting a team that they had previously dumped?

Northern Cambria quit the LHAC long before Ligonier Valley did.

Just how big of a booster club should Saltsburg have with its enrollment of 67 and football roster of 19?  What’s Saltsburg’s per capita income compared to Ligonier Valley’s?  Where is the nearest YMCA to Saltsburg?
