Local newspaper carriers- ALERT

Do you have a newspaper delivered by a reliable carrier every day?  Do you reward them with a little end-of-year bonus in a card or envelope?  My wife may have uncovered  potential theft early today.  She was up earlier than me, waiting for our local newspaper.  He is pretty regular with his deliveries, and thats good, but possibly, someone is shadowing his route.  This is the time of year some of us reward our carrier for his/ her good regular service, with a Christmas card, and either a small cash or check as a tip for their service.  There was a vehicle that pulled up to our paper box, was there briefly, then drove away.  The wife, thinking it was the paper, went up to the box, and NO paper.  She wondered WTH, came back inside.  About 5 minutes later, the paper DID arrive.  Sooo, possibly, someone is cruising the routes, looking for cards & money intended for the paper carrier.  Be warned, it's a rough life out there, and thieves are rampant as is the illicit drug use in this area and elsewhere.  Be pro-active.  If you want to reward your carrier for their good service, call the PAPER and get the name and address for them, and reward them by sending it directly to them.  Stop the thieves and junkies.

Good idea. Another thing to look into, while it's less of a personal touch, is if you set up your subscription with auto-renewal from a credit card, you can predetermine the tip and add it on to your recurring charge and they will get it that way.

Doug, would that way specify that the tip is going directly to the carrier, and not to the newspaper?

For the Post-Gazette it does. It specifically says on the invoice "Gratuity for carrier" so I'm taking their word for it.
