I'll be there, but just so I get a chance to see a different opponent for a little while in between watching college football ha ha Gonna be interesting to see where the Portage program goes after this game.

Sounds like a tough situation there portage pride... Is it a lack of kids playing next year,  thin group coming through or other issues?  Normally couch gouse has them shaped up and ready to go by the next season

I'm curious as to what's wrong at Portage. Outside looking in they have a great program. Always at or near the top in their conference. Last year had a tremendous team, they gave BG all they could handle.

As of right now it's in the "other issues" category...but with one starter already quitting during the season do to problems who knows, It could trickle down into younger players getting turned off into playing anymore ??? This current coaching staff has REALLY got disconnected and lost the team and SOME fans this season. There were some coaching changes in the off season and It has really had an effect on whats going on here on and off the field. I look/hear for there to be changes on the sideline come next season, but that's all hearsay and perception till it actually happens as we know. Portage had a 7 - 1 Junior High season and one loss JV team so the cupboard is definitely still not bare here, the question is what's the staff going to consist of to lead this program into a new generation of Mustang Football...

This isn't a situation unique to Portage. Every school has its issues. Some become more public than others, and somehow it's always "the Coaches' fault." He's trying to ride herd on dozens of young Mavericks who sometimes fall in line, and sometimes they have to do it THEIR way, so conflicts do arise.

Portage Pride I was curious what way you are going with this subject. Are you talking about the new OC? The rumor I heard was that the starter that quit from portage quit because of playing time. I guess he wasn't doing as well as he was in the beginning of the season and his playing time began to drop off because of it and instead of taking it as a challenge to better himself he just quit. Also was just curious if the portage fans are still as bad as they were when I played screaming at coaches all the time? It seems to be that its easiest to blame the play calls from coaches when a game is going bad but i know whenever I played when sitting down and actually watching film 80% of the time the play didn't go because of a missed block not because the play wasn't there.

What way I am going on this subject....??? Now do you mean what is MY personal opinion or are you perceiving that I'm trying to single out a person or persons and just blaming the staff or there on in. I'm fully aware about the player who quit and his playing time and everything that went along with that. It bothered me also in connection with that situation that his fellow players didn't seem to really care that he quit week 10 which is inexplainable to me especially the captains, and that has NOTHING to do with the staff so please lets not try and pin me thinking this is 100% on them. Having the new OC wasn't a problem, however not communicating with your players and getting on the same page, especially with the leader/leaders of it on making some changes and mixing it up a little bit during a game IS a MAJOR problem and it's happened quite a few times this season. Portage fans are Portage fans...the community here is incredibly passionate about this town and it's football tradition and people see that week in and week out, home or away. However I don't think the "ripping" of the staff is nearly as bad as it was say....6. to 10 years ago. Who knows maybe when the fans started to back off, the staff started to get a little too complacent and we arrive where we are today Ha Ha Winning will also abolish a good amount of these issues, and Portage has done their fair share of winning in the past 10 years so probably has something to do with it. HOWEVER being 8 - 2 this year I still haven't seen the disconnect between players and staff here in a long time. Seeing and hearing about exchanges between these groups on the sidelines and in the locker room at the WestPac Title game were unimaginable things that happened here before so something is definitely not going in the right direction here currently.
