When a young athlete dies, we all feel a pit in our stomach. Why do they go so young, with so much promise, so much potential in life.
Nick Roberts had a great wrestling career, but he passed at the age of 23.
Vinnie Michaels was an athlete from Portage who was an outstanding running back in the mid-1950s. As a junior, he was getting feelers from coaches from major colleges.
But, in a game against East Conemaugh, that all ended, creating misery for his parents just as Nick's did for the Roberts'.
