Scrimmages

Forgive me, if I'm asking a question that has already been answered. I saw on the FH website that they will scrimmage BM on Saturday, the 19th. But, what about this weekend? No scrimmages this weekend, only one? Is that true for all teams?

I could be wrong, but this week is "heat acclimation" isn't it?   I'm not sure you can have a scrimmage if the kids haven't been in pads yet.

So one week of heat acclimation
One week of actual camp
One week of normal game prep

And then the week of August 25th, can be considered "week zero" and you can choose to play a 10th real game, or a second scrimmage.  Many schools do real games, and in some districts like District 6, they require a 10 game schedule.   The WPIAL however, gives their teams the options to play a scrimmage on the 25.

Perfect.
Thanks for the explanation.

BTW, while I am a proponent of safety first, I'm not a big fan of "heat acclimation",....the way it is being implemented now. As someone else mentioned, employ a little common sense. It should be evaluated based on the weather the first week of camp.
72°, and low humidity,...No.
>85°, and high humidity,...Yes.
And,...shorts? If you want the kids to get acclimated, put all the equipment on, and let them run sprints in that. Delay hitting for 3 days.
Oh, wait, that's we used to do.

I just think, sometimes a little common sense would serve everyone better.

Thx again.

223113, you are asking an organization like the PIAA to use common sense in making rulings concerning rules for practices and scrimmages. You do realize that this is the organization that allows a All-Star single A school to compete at the same level as single A schools that have their students living in the boundaries of the school district. This organization has no common sense. It is run by power and money, nothing else.
However, on the heat acclimation week of practices. Basically what you are getting is the same number of practices before the first game as in the past, but the first week is without pads and hitting. So really the kids aren't being hurt. You can't have rules that effect the entire state based on the weather that can be different for different areas that are even as close as 20 miles let alone the difference across the entire state.
You have 6 practices without pads the first week and no scrimmage that Saturday. You have 5 days of two-a-days in full pads and then a scrimmage. The third week you have 4 days of full practice, normally after school and then opening night that Friday. Pretty close to the past except for the first week without pads. I think this schedule is pretty standard for everybody.

I agree with everything except the power and money statement. The PIAA is not some giant entity in Mechanicsburg that is hording cash. Every decision made comes from the voting power of all the districts. The people in Mechanicsburg have zero voting power. They are basically paid employees of every district. Wish people would realize this. Nobody at PIAA headquarters controls anything. People like Bob Lombardi are basically spokesmen.

dadw/2 sons, of course, I agree that the PIAA couldn't make the decision across the whole state. It could be evaluated by each District, or each school for that matter. The PIAA doesn't have a corner on common sense.

But, in the interest of us not wasting anymore of our time on this, I'll drop it. Like can be said about many things in life, this isn't going to change, so I'll turn the page.

Looking forward to high school football in western PA.

seriously, even each district would have a difficult time with that idea. cold fronts often set up through the middle of the state every which way...so if its 75 in altoona but 86 in state college how do you make that decision???? Each school??? let 557 schools decide because it's only 70 degrees on Monday to drop heat acc...then on thursday its 86?
