What will be left...

Post by CMM52 »

I know I am just stirring the pot here, but there is some truth and relevance to this as well...
I have been part of many discussions on here involving public/private etc...  in football.  Many times people saying that it’s next to impossible for small schools to compete with private.  Now we fast forward to the end...  1A and 2A are both represented by 2 public school teams.  3A has 1 and potentially a second tonight.   It is likely that 8 of the 12 teams competing for state championships will be public schools.
So I ask, what will be left to talk about after we clearly see now that 1. It isn’t impossible for small public schools to win and 2. Public schools have a firm hold on PIAA football.  Just saying...

OK, so thats 8 out of 12. 2/3. Take ALL schools in Pa., and divide by the number of private/ charters, and what is the result? This year it may be a little higher public's finish, but it's not the norm.
It ain't over until it's over.

One of those schools is a charter, so only 3 private schools... and this is just year two of 6 classifications...

Historically class A has been dominated by public schools.  Bishop Guilfoyle's run really rubbed people the wrong way but it's long been dominated by the Southern Columbia's, Clairton's, and Steel-High's not Bishop's. It's never been impossible for public schools to compete.

Agreed, but not what’s routinely said in these forums.  I guess point, based on some responses here, is even when things look like they are becoming competitively balanced the masses still aren’t happy.  Maybe if we start giving participation trophies to all teams people will be happy.

Let’s not forget about those McCort and Carroll runs and that’s only speaking for D6. They may have not won but they have been there multiple times. And competitively balanced? So you’re saying that a team like HC will make a state final appearance 2 -3 years in a row? A public school is lucky to make it to their district championship that many consecutive times and I do not consider SC a typical public school. Participation trophies would be nice but it would be a lot nicer if public’s could have open enrollment boarders.

In the state championship era, 5/30 state championships in class A have been won by Catholic schools.  3/30 state runners up in Class have been Catholic schools.

6/30 state champions in Class AA have been Catholic, 3 runners up have been Catholic.

So in the two small classes everyone always references, in the history of state championship era, 17 Catholic schools have played in the big game. For context, Southern Columbia alone has appeared in the state title game 16 times by themselves.

Philly Catholic league and Charter system have changed everything and will continue to be a problem.  In fact, I can see those charter schools continuing to filter down to the lowest levels of AA an A if they cant get their championships in AAAA and above.

we all know about the magical beans they eat up there in SC. This topic is like beating a dead horse...there are discrepancies that people will never agree with but it always cracks me up when someone gets on here and tries to justify things. What would the nfl be like if most teams had a salary cap but a few didn’t ?
