First of a three-part series.

Issue: Quest is a level playing field where every high school athlete has a fair chance of competing.

The problem is 46 years old and will require legislative action, which is possible this year. It is not a religious issue, but is an issue of fundamental fairness. The PIAA cannot solve this problem, and it has been complicit in exacerbating it.

The WPIAL is leading on this, and superintendents are involved instead of ADs and coaches. It could become a hot potato in legislative elections in November.

Does anyone know what a Superintendent does all day?

Joe Skura dumped the usual fluff piece about some great member of the Northern section of the county to take this topic on. It must be getting serious.

I do enjoy “dropping a regular fluff piece” every week. I consider it positive features about positive people. We have enough negative in the news today! That particular column was only my opinion that it’s about time they quit talking and do something.

Superintendents are the overseers of the entire district. They make very pertinent decisions on a daily basis, and ensure their district is running. They should be championing for fairness for their athletes, and I applaud them for getting involved!
