Curiosity and proximity got the best of me, I’m watching McCort/Westmont this morning.

Somerset with only 25 dressed for triscrimmage with FH and Johnstown.  Appears like a down year.   Very little offense against either team.  Held their own defensively against Johnstown.   FH threw all day but had trouble running on Somerset. Deblase looked very good on both sides of the ball.

Johnstown is really small at all specialist positions.  They had 16 coaches standing behind the offense.  Barber looks promising.  Wr #11 should be solid.  Poor running game, heavy screen game.  Defensively they are athletic , fast but small, shut down somerset and FH running game.  Picked off Cecere.  But gave up the deep ball because no one knew who to cover

FH was hands down the best of the three.  Biggest concern is inability to run the ball.  Cecere wanted to throw as deep as possible all day. hit a couple long TDS, but Did overthrow receivers and threw a pick.    as expected did not play any defense.  Seth Richardson and forest Wolfhope should both have huge years.  Defensively they handled somerset and Johnstown.  Jason wissinger is going to make alot of tackles.  If they can get the running game on track, should be a very good season.

What scrimmage were you watching? Somerset scrimmaged Cambria Heights and handled the scrimmage very well. They moved the ball to many players and defense looked very stout!

McCort/Westmont...
-- Got a little chippy in this one towards the beginning. McCort knocked Westmont out of the playoffs and the schools are rivals. And they don't play this year - so I wasn't that surprised it was physical. Refs tried to take control early. They had to tell one of the WH linemen to take a break for a few plays for getting a little carried away.  No incidents after that.
-- Thought it was interesting Westmont and the refs wanted to see the paperwork on a McCort kid wearing a visor. He has an eye condition and has been wearing it for a long time including both times the two teams played last year, but they made McCort pull out the doctor's notice anyway before letting him continue.
-- Also heard Westmont has been complaining to the LHAC that the Point Stadium isn't a suitable venue for football anymore.  Said the field is too hard to play on - whatever that means.
Anyway to the scrimmage itself...
--  Westmont is big once again. They have a lot coming back off a 7 win team. A scrimmage is tough to really judge Westmont, since their game is predicated off of running the clock and having 15+ play drives. So in a scrimmage without sticks or a clock and them just running for three yards at a time doesn't really do them a ton of justice.
-- Camden Moors for Westmont is really, really good.  He's going to break more big runs this season. He's been a 1,000 yard back the past two seasons, he'll be good for them again. Possibly the best RB in the LHAC.  He broke off a big touchdown run today.
-- Westmont is pretty tough defensively.  #32 is an undersized LB but gets to the ball a lot. They have a lot of kids that swarm to the ball. The big linemen don't make a ton of plays, but they take on blocks and the LBs and safeties can hit.
-- Looks like McCort is going to try to throw the ball more. Will Miller is a big, strong kid.  He's going to be important for McCort this year.  Looks like Bair, Andrews, and Marcozzi will be trying to offset the loss of Walters/Andrews.  Bair had a big run at one point today. Still a question mark I think.
-- McCort isn't small. They have 3-4 linemen back that started last year, and they settled in eventually. They just have a lot of kids in that 5-10 to 6-1 range with 200+ pounds on them.  No massive 270 pound kids or anything, but that front seven has some nice sized kids.
-- I think in the normal session each team scored one touchdown.
-- They did a session at the 10 yard line and McCort won that. They scored more TD's and stuffed WH the majority of the time.
-- During the JV sessions, I think BM scored 3 touchdowns in 10 plays, and WH fumbled 3 times in 10 plays. Whoever the McCort JV QB is did a nice job. He throws it well.
-- Both teams are playoff teams in their respective classes. Kind of forgot McCort is down to Class A and Westmont is up to AAA.
