Yes, if you go on the PIAA site you will see the formula for determining at what point districts enter interdistricts based off the number of teams in the district. For D6-AAA they incorrectly have the district listed as only having 3 teams plus 2 teams from D5 (Bedford & Somerset) which aren't even part of our bracket this year according to the D6 site. D6 actually has 9 teams and if the 2 D5 teams are indeed included it would give us 11 teams and based on the formula should be starting later in interdistricts. Very confusing as the formula they use shows 5 teams total competing at D5/6-AAA level. This was posted in January so maybe it has been fixed since and with only have 9 teams and thus being a smaller district requires the reduced field. My question would then be where are the 2 D5-AAA teams being counted???

Crazy to think 3A would only get 4 teams (44% of field) while 4A gets (67%), 2A (73%) and 1A (67%).

According to the district 5 website.  AAA football is playing a sub regional with 8 and 9.  6 total teams and 4 make the playoffs. The winner plays the winner of district 6 in the slot in the state playoffs where the district 6 champ entered the last 2 years. Seems to be D6 got ripped off for some reason which is surprising with the success the lower 3 classes have had these last couple of years.

Thanks for clearing that up funfacts. Makes a little more sense now but still stinks for what is a pretty competitive field of 9 teams. Every game will be significant in 3A.

Yea 4 teams is ridiculous in my opinion. You could lose 2 or 3 games and be on the outside looking in.

I don't think 4 out of 9 teams is ridiculous. I think it's perfect . AA , for example getting 8 out of 11 is ridiculous.

This is what the D5 site states:
Class AAA Playoffs
AAA will play through the 5/8/9 subregional.
Teams involved include: Bedford, Somerset, Perry, Westinghouse, St. Marys, and Punxsutawney. The 4 team playoff format will be determined by mid September.
The subregional Champion will play the District 6 Champion at a 5/8/9 site on Nov. 16 or 17.

This really make losing to Ridge big for FH, as they have possible losses to Richland and BG as the season rolls on , if they took another hit unexpectedly, could be ugly swan song for Coach Bailey ,
Hard to understand why he chose to play up if he would have had better chance of making AA playoffs
