Mountain League - Week 8

Last Week 4-1 (Overall 29-8)

Philipsburg-Osceola (1-6) @ Huntingdon (2-5)...P-O picked up their 1st win of the season by dismantling Vincentian Academy 49-0. Meanwhile the Bearcats fell to undefeated BEA 30-7. Don't expect a lot of points in this one as both teams have struggled all season to find their rhythm offensively. The Bearcats have gone from senior Andrew Hudy to junior Nick Troha but the lack of a running game hasn't helped either signal caller. Huntingdon is averaging 90 yards per game on the ground. Fortunate for them the Mounties ground game has been even less productive at 74 yards per game. Huntingdon 24 Philipsburg-Osceola 14

Bishop Carroll (2-5) @ Penns Valley (4-3)...The Rams are coming off a somewhat surprising 42-27 win over 4A Bellefonte. Junior QB Aaron Tobias had a day against a very good Red Raiders defense. Tobias was an impressive 22/30 for 384 yards and 4 TDs in the game. Bishop Carroll played hard and hung with visiting Central for the majority of the game before falling 24-14. The Huskies will play hard but 2,000 yard passer Tobias, tailback Ryan Ripka (17 TDs) and the high scoring Ram offense will be too much. A win here sets up a big game vs Tyrone next week for PV. Penns Valley 42 Bishop Carroll 20

Tyrone (4-3) @ Hollidaysburg (3-4)...After a 4-0 start the Golden Eagles have dropped 3 straight and have been outscored 101-21 during that stretch. The schedule doesn't cut them a break this week either as they receive a visit from the 5A Tigers. While the Tigers have lost 4 of their last 5 it hasn't been for lack of offense. On the season Hollidaysburg is averaging 31 points per game and closes out with 3 games which they should be the favorite in. The Tigers spread the ball around on offense with 3 players having over 350 yards and 4 with double digit receptions. Don't think Tyrone can slow them down on the turf. Hollidaysburg 39 Tyrone 14

Central (3-4) vs Bellefonte (5-2) @ Lock Haven University...The Red Raiders will look to bounce back after their surprising loss at the hands of Penns Valley. QB Kyle Myers can be a threat both running and passing the ball and on the season has yet to throw an interception (100 attempts). RB CJ Funk however leads the offense and has eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark on the ground to go along with 13 TDs. Bellefonte looks to put an end to a 2 game losing skid while the Dragons attempt to build on their current 2 game win streak. Central will need to score some points against a typically stingy Red Raider defense in order to stay in this one and keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Bellefonte 35 Central 27

Game of the Year
Clearfield (7-0) @ Bald Eagle Area (7-0)...All eyes in the Mountain League will be on Wingate Friday night in what basically plays out as a conference championship between two undefeateds and the current #1 seeds in both 3A & 4A. The teams are very similar statistically in that both are averaging an impressive 43 points per game while the Bison give up 16 and the Eagles 13. Two of the best QBs in the area will square off in this one with senior Isaac Rumery (1500 passing/16 TDs/1INT) leading Clearfield and junior Jaden Jones (1684 passing/20 TDs/7 INTs) under center for BEA. Both playmakers also add 6 TDs on the ground to their resumes. Sophomore WR Jake Lezzer (33/717/7) is arguably one of the best receivers in the district for the Bison. This should be a really good game and I predict the offenses will control the game. I picked Clearfield as my preseason favorite and I can't turn back on that now, even as impressive as Bald Eagle Area has been. Clearfield 35 Bald Eagle Area 28

Hollidaysburg has played State College, Fort Hill, Cedar Cliff and McDowell past 4 of 5 weeks. Solid 5A or 6A teams. Every game was close except for SC. Tyrone got run out by solid 3A teams and barely beat Bellwood. If Tyrone wins this game, this is a huge upset.

You never know, the game was close the last 2 years at halftime. Depth will be a concern for Tyrone with Hollidaysburg's rotation. I can also see Central getting beat handedly by Bellefonte. Dragon's aren't the same as in years past, saw them in person twice...

They may have been close at half but they still lost both by a combined score of 72-20. Also not gonna disagree with your Central comment. Pretty sure everyone knows they took a step back this year.
