Private Schools

Post by qbcoach13 »

I understand the frustration of the public schools and the private schools. Before I get to my point I would like to tell a little story about recruiting. I grew up in Altoona and at the end of my eigth grade year at my parochial school, I had a choice of either B.G. or Altoona. I was a pretty dang good athlete and many thought I would attend Altoona following my brother and father who went there and excelled in sports. A B.G. freshman football coach came into our school one day and told us the schedule for any players who were going to play at B.G. He said if you come to B.G. you would enjoy your experience. He wished anyone going to Altoona good luck and went on his way. Now, for the next three months, even after repeatedly telling them my choice of going to B.G., coaches from both junior highs and high school coaches from Altoona called my house non stop. My mother even taped some of these conversations. Gas money was offered to my parents, allowance for clothing, and other goodies went with each conversation. Now, I can obviously see how B.G.'s "recruiting" tactics should obviously be turned into the PIAA each year with how it gets players from its own feeder system.
I agree with the classification of these private schools though. I now coach football at a public school and have felt the sting and anger of losing to private schools in huge championship and play off games (McCort).
I think PA should have a system like New Jersey where there are champonships for both private schools and public schools. Then once those champions are crowned in their rspective sports, they have a tournament of champions where the public plays the private schools to determine the overall state champion in their classification. This way both sides get an actual state champion and then they play to see who can beat who.

I am interested in knowing why a freshman football coach from BG would be in a public school with scheduling information.

Was Altoona High Schools Freshman coach over at the parochial school giving scheduling information and providing well wishes to those students?

Not buying it qbcoach13, you might want to sell it but i'm not buying it!!

i heard from a few coaches that Johnstown's Point Guard Mark Watson is either going to B.G or Altoona High,
What will this do to B.G?

How about Richland High School offered a McCort student the starting QB position this year?

True story. Facts. argue that one.
