This Thursday, weather permitting, comes the game of the week in the heritage conference....and for that matter in Class A in District 6. The Saltsburg Trojans take on the undefeated and state ranked Homer-Center Wildcats at the Homer Dome. This game Thursday i feel will truly be the best game of the year in Class A Boys Basketball owing to the fact that Saltsburg and Homer-Center are both undefeated in the heritage.

Any thoughts???????????????????

Should be a great game! Saltsburg will hang if they are hitting from the outside wich with them is a very good possibility. They hang for 3 quarters till homers size eventually beats them. With that said I'll take Homer by 10-15

This is going to be a great game and I like HC as well but by single digits.  Both these teams however are not going to beat Carroll or Guilfoyle in A

how can you say that at this point?  have you seen either team play?  and in two recent seasons, Homer played BG tough in the district semis....and the one year, BG won the title.  this homer team has the capability of winning it this year.

This should be a great game and even though I live in Altoona I'm thinking about going to it. As for District 6A, I've actually seen all 4 teams play (Saltsburg/Central, BG/CC, BC/BM, & Homer/Richland) and IMHO Homer with their overall size should be the favorite. While I think Saltsburg has a nice team, they didn't score inside at all when I saw them and I feel like they would have trouble with BG or BC. Both teams (in particular BG) would be athletic enough to make life difficult for Saltsburg's very good guards.

It's a shame BG @ BC was cancelled last night (anyone hear when it'll be re-scheduled?) as I was very much looking forward to it. BG beat CC who beat BC, however, BC beat BM who beat BG so I'm not sure how you judge those two teams against one another just yet. It's still early for these teams (especially BG who has only played 5 games and will probably be playing just about every night or every other night due to football) but I think the question in the district comes down to this. Will Homer Center be good enough or tested enough with their schedule to win a tight game vs. BG/BC who are in battles just about every game in the LHAC? I see more of the BG games and even their non-conference slate (Altoona, Bellwood) is difficult. In the past that tough schedule has served BC/BG well in the playoffs. In the playoff games referenced above between HC & BG they were good games (although I think BG won the first one pretty handily on their way to the D6 title) but in both games Homer came in with the better record and lost (as also happened last year vs. St. Joes) so I don't think their schedule does them any favors. We'll see how it all plays out because a lot can change in the next month but right now I'd make HC a slight favorite at Saint Francis. The game this Thursday will be very interesting and I'm hopeful to be able to make it since it is by far the best game of the night within the district.

I've have seen Saltsburg Homer BC and ferndale play in person I would rank Homer BC Saltsburg and ferndale in that order don't know much about BG but heard some good things about them. I think D6 class A will be a battle top to bottom with Penn's manor and Mo Valley as solid 5 and 6 seeds. Neutral floor sites always play a factor when talking playoffs and matchups. Homer is senior lead team with capatosi being a great floor leader so in a one and done setting I'd take homers experience over BC in that senerio.

those were quality responses for sure....and the Heritage is weak for the most part in basketball.  I have observed it over the past 5 years or so, and it always comes down to two teams, and then maybe two more are fair at best.  the other 5-6 are bad, and that is the case this year.  Homer did play Richland at a holiday tourney, and they will play punxsy.  they play derry who is terrible and they played some weak teams in their tip off.  Richland I believe is turning out to be a middle of the road LHAC team.  so  yes, the schedule doesn't help them much at all. saltsburg may be in the same boat with their non conference.
