College Men’S BASKETBALL U.P.J. putting "11"-game winning streak on line.

The Mountain Cats host Mansfield University tonight and Pitt-Johnstown coach Bob Rukavina will look to earn the "250"th win of his 17-year career.

The Mountain Cats are also looking to make history tonight.

Pitt-Johnstown can extend the school record for consecutive wins to 12, set last week as the Mountain Cats earned their 11th consecutive win by thrashing Columbia Union, 118-46.

Rukavina is the winningest men’s basketball coach in UPJ history and has posted a 249-191 record, leading the Mountain Cats to NCAA tournament berths in 1997 and 1998.

High School Boys BASKETBALL :


Conemaugh Valley 85, Blacklick Valley 41

The Blue Jays got off to an early 31-12 lead after the first quarter and rolled to a WestPAC victory over the Vikings on Wednesday.

Conemaugh Valley (9-2) got a game-high "23" points from Rory Marshall. Brett Sanderson added 16 points, Vince Turner, 12, and Robert Gunby, 10 for the Jays.

Brad Weimer topped the Vikings with 13 points.

Shanksville 53, Southern Fulton 37

SHANKSVILLE – Jeff Berkey scored "31" points in a win over Southern Fulton.

P.J. Hixon led the Indians with 17 points as Shanksville outscored Southern Fulton 18-6 in the first quarter.

Portage 63, Northern Cambria 60

PORTAGE – The Mustangs’ Jared Bilchak hit a layup with "13" seconds remaining to give Portage a 61-60 lead and Randy Spaid nailed down the victory with a pair of free throws as Portage stopped Northern Cambria.

Spaid finished with 23 points and John Hodges topped all scorers with 26.

Northern Cambria got 19 points apiece from Chris Havrilla and Joe Rocco, and 10 points from Dustin Weakland.

Shade 78, Johnstown Christian 48

CAIRNBROOK – Kevin Kozlick led Shade with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the Panthers’ win over Johnstown Christian.

Ben Leonard scored 18 for the Panthers.

Joe Speigle scored 18 points to lead Johnstown Christian and Matt Lloyd added 10.

Ferndale 49, Conemaugh Township 45

DAVIDSVILLE – Kary Roberts scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Ferndale turned a marked advantage at the foul line into its second win of the season.

The Yellow Jackets sank 22 of 32 shots from the stripe, including 15 of 18 in the fourth quarter, when they failed to make a field goal.

Conemaugh Township converted six of 10 free throws and was led by Tim Johnson’s game-high 24 points, which came on eight 3-pointers.

Meyersdale 52, Salisbury 31

MEYERSDALE – Mike Courtney scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out five assists for Meyersdale.

Matt Stahl and Jeff Miller scored a dozen each for the Red Raiders. Stahl pulled down 12 rebounds.

Shane Knopnsyder’s 12 points led the Elks.

Berlin 74, Rockwood 58

ROCKWOOD – Berlin shot out to a 15-3 lead after one quarter then had to hold on, sinking 21 fourth-quarter free throws to beat Rockwood.

Ethan Suder led the Mountaineers with 19 points, while Donnie Zeigler had 16 points. Tyler Good and Nathan Menhorn each added a dozen for Berlin.

Seth Foreman scored a game-high 31 points for Rockwood. Cody Sanner had 12 points and Zach Sipe pitched in 10.

Chestnut Ridge 70, Forbes Road 50

WATERFALL – Josh Kohler scored 18 points and Ben Way added 11 in Chestnut Ridge’s victory over host Forbes Road.

Dillon Ford topped the Cardinals with 14 points.

Windber 74, North Star 37

BOSWELL – Derek Crognale topped all scorers with 20 points, leading Windber to a win over host North Star.

Matt Mandel added 18 points and Joe Swinger had 11 for the Ramblers.

Corey Shaffer paced the Cougars with 17 points.

Salisbury-Elk Lick 46, Northern Garrett 44

SALISBURY – Tiffany Haning hit the winning basket with a second remaining as the Elks earned their first victory of the season.

Salisbury got 15 points and 13 rebounds from Lindsey Otto and nine rebounds from Sarah Johnson.

Megan Wiley topped the Huskies with 12 points.

Johnstown 45, Northern Bedford 26

Johnstown, which got 14 points from Danielle Burkhart and 12 points and 10 rebounds from Lateia Jefferson, held Northern Bedford to single-digit scoring in all four quarters on its way to a win.

Danis Kilgore and Catya Gilbert each had 10 points for Northern Bedford.

Laurel Valley 73, Purchase Line 52

COMMODORE – Heidi Hollingsworth led Laurel Valley with 22 points in a win over Purchase Line.

Brittany Hall scored 21 points and had 10 assists and Grace Altimus added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams.

Rachel Struble led Purchase Line with 15 points and Kristie Bash scored 14.

HOMER CITY – Jess Valeria scored 24 points, Jen Valeria added 16 and Christy Rocco had 11 to lead Northern Cambria.
