Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame

It was a great Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet yesterday. Those sports fans who didn't have a good reason for attending -- shame on you!
100.9 carried the event live, so credit goes to them.
A huge "well done" to the board members and officers who worked their asses off to make this a reality.
Many of the presenters and recipients had great remarks. Jan Clark's comments were moving, as was Fred Glasgow's -- Fred looks like he could strap on a helmet and go full tilt right now -- who spent much of his speech reading the names of his fellow teammates. Now that's class!
In fact, the theme of the evening to me was the emphasis on team and not the individual. So many of the speakers stressed this, even though they all had outstanding personal accomplishments. I wish a lot more younger athletes and their parents and even coaches, many of whom are in love with personal statistics, could have heard this.
Most of these guys reminded us, directly or indirectly, of the main reason for playing high school sports: to bring fame and glory and respect for team and school.

Wish I could have attended. I know the people involved put in many hours of work/thought/discussion to put this together.
As a side note, I really enjoyed the article by Mr. Herncane in the paper regarding Waltman and Clark. Though I only had Eddie for gym class it brought back memories. He was not one to mince words. That article should be posted in the gym and the practice rooms at Bedford to remind these younger kids of the hard work it takes to become a winner. Maybe they will realize they don't have it so tough after all.
