Is the SW AA Region Expanding to 16?
Apparently D7 is now going to send EIGHT wrestlers...is D6 going to send five and D5 still send 3??
Last year D7's 7th place finishers went 5-28 at regionals, with all the wins occurring in the consis, nobody finishing in the top 6. Is it really necessary to now send an 8th guy?

In the 2014 SW regional tournament.
District 7 (7th) had a record of 5-28.
District 6 (4th) had a record of 10-28.
District 5 (3rd) had a record of 11-29.
These are the final qualifying positions for each district.

It gets even worse for D7 in 2013
D7's record in 2013 was 3-28
D6's record was 20-28
D5's record was 15-28 (with 3 state qualifiers)

My opinion would be for the SW region to go to a 32 man bracket. State tourney should be 64. Give everyone a shot, it's the fair thing to do.

Why don't they throw in a participation ribbon also

Re: Is the SW AA Region Expanding to 16?
I believe that the top 5 at each of their 3 sections qualified for the D7 tournament.
Can anybody confirm the 16 wrestler bracket? I haven't seen that confirmed, just the 8th wrestler from D7.
fwiw my counts for the next 2 years are 40 D7 squads (Indiana, Central Valley, Elizabeth Forward, and McGuffey are new?, was 36) 27 D6 (New is Johnstown, was 26), and 12 D5 squads (unchanged.) 79 squads out of ?237 = roughly 1/3 of AA squads.
Does anybody have an update on # of regional qualifiers going to Hershey? The proposed plan was to be each of the 4 regions would gain a qualifier and 20 would make the trip. IF proportionality rules are to be followed I believe that SW could get 7, NW 4, NE 4, and SE staying @ 5.

Seriously? Why don't they just save a bunch of school districts a bunch of money and just go directly from Districts to states like track? Honestly, just go to a 24-32 man state bracket and skip regionals....way too many qualifiers to regionals and out of regionals and in these economic times it saves a week of school districts paying for hotels and meals for coaches and athletes.

PIAA makes big $ on regional wrestling tournaments, thus the PIAA is not interested in getting rid of regional wrestling tournaments. They aren't concerned about additional school district or parent costs, as the proposed expansion to 20 @ Hershey displays.
