Oh good, we've moved on tot he socialist fear tactic now. I guess since Obama wants to tax the weatlhiest 1-2% to fund universal health care, he's a lousy socialist. Actually, I think everyone should have a small tax increase to fund health care, but more about that later.....Have you ever considered just how much of our society is socialist?

For one, I hope those of you are anti-socialism don't step foot in a public library...that would be hypocritical. Everyone can benefit from a library regardless of how much you pay in taxes. Imagine someone who doesn't pay any taxes going into a library to take out books to read. Maybe we should stop funding libraries. If you want to read a book then you better get a job and BUY the book. We don't want to risk educating those who are too lazy to pay taxes!

Speaking of education, I certainly hope those of you are opposed to socialist ideals didn't go to public school. After all, it's paid for by tax dollars. No matter how much tax you pay, everyone is entitled to an education. How fair is that? Maybe we should just educate the people according to how much money their parents pay in taxes! I mean an educated society seems like a good thing, but why should those with money pay for the educations of those that don't have money? It just doesn't seem fair.

You know what else isn't fair....public roads! Can you believe that they let people who pay little or no taxes drive on the very same roads as those who pay lots of taxes? How ridiculous is that? I think every road in American should be toll road and that way we all have to pay for the roads that we use. No more free passes for the free loaders!

How about the police and fire department. I mean they'll rescue people regardless of their tax status? Once again, just not fair! Maybe we should pay the police and fire department on a "pay as you need" plan. If you need the police to investigate a break-in to your home, you pay them up front. That way you aren't burdening the tax payers who have to foot the bill because YOU got robbed. It's just not fair that I as a taxpayer should have to pay for YOUR misfortunes. Same thing with the fire department. If you want them to put out your fire, then pay them and don't burden everyone else with your problems.

Don't even get me started on public parks or public museums. Just tear them all down. Nothing is worse than seeing people that hardly pay any taxes enjoying a public park. My hard earned money helps keep that grass green! Never mind that it makes the community look nicer. Either keep the free loaders away or get rid of them altogether.

For the most part I don't have a problem with social security and medicare because we pay and get that back later on. What upsets me about it is those people who take out more than they put in. How dare they live long enough to take out more than they put in. It's just awful and not fair. I'm sure all those people who are so against socialist ideas would NEVER consider taking out more than their fair share.

I guess that's enough of a sarcastic rant for tonight. Just for the record, I am not in favor of a socialist economic society. I don't believe Obama is in favor of that and even if he was, it would never, ever pass. It's just more fear mongering. Obviously there are good many areas in which the socialized agenda works just fine. I fail to see why a society than can provide a military that will protect all of its citizens, a public education, public roads, police/fire protection, retirement and health care for senior citizens, public libraries/parks/museums, etc. can't provide health care for everyone.

I think I would rather be part of a society that pulls together and helps out all citizens. I find it kind of odd that so many pro-life people are content with a system that allows some people to die because they can't afford health insurance.

The above post has been the best post on BleacherCoaches this year, if not ever. I could not agree more.

That post may have been good if it made any sense.

Ah yes, it's only 1-2% more of taxes on the "wealthy".

What is the wealthy by the way? I think it started as anyone that makes above 250k per year, then it was 200k, then 150k, then 100k. I wonder what it is defined as now?

Here's an interesting graph of what the top 1% of wage earners pay in taxes compared to the bottom 95% of wage earners. Does this seem fair to you? And before any of you question this, I am NOT in that top 1% category - not by a long shot. I just believe that punishing success will lead to disaster.

That image didn't post so well. Here's a link to it if you want to see the entire thing.

RidgeDad, why do you think those numbers are coming together? Those top earners are certainly mistreated, aren't they? Since 1990, CEO pay is up over 500%, S&P 500 is up nearly 300%, corporate profits are up 116% and worker pay is up 32%. When the top earners are increasing at such a ridiculous rate compared to the average workers, it's no wonder those numbers are coming together.

Here is another fact that CEO pay is now 262 times higher than average worker pay. In 1965 it was only 50 times higher. The rich aren't just getting richer, they are getting MUCH richer. Meanwhile average workers are increasing about the same rate as inflation.

Like I said in my previous post, I think everyone should see a tax increase to pay for health care, but I have absolutely no sympathy if the rich get taxed more. They have taken a share of the pie that far exceeds the rate of inflation. How you see the super rich as unfairly taxed is beyond me.

And how you don't see it is beyond me. I guess that's where the fundamental difference lies.

If someone's services are deemed worth more than the service's I provide, why should I feel it's the governments duty to take from that person to give to me? What is an acceptable amount of taxes the "rich" should pay? Obviously, to you, 40% isn't enough. Is it 50%? 60%? How about 75%? Where does it stop?

Have you read the analogy of the professor conducting the socialism exercise in his class regarding grades? True or not, the meaning behind speaks volumes.

Here it is:
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism." All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an 'A.'

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a 'B.'

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a 'D!' No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an 'F.'

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
