Buccos Suck!

This team has had some really unfortunate circumstances come their way this year, but let's be honest, we were told this team is built to sustain a competitive nature for the long run when all of us were left scratching our heads in years past wondering why the hell we weren't all in to win it all.  Let's look at some of those lies thus far, starting with the most recent...
Polonco, supposed to be great...  sucks
Bell, supposed to be great...  can't take the full time job from John Jaso...  come on man!
McCutchen, I love him, but honestly nobody was offering at least one player that could hit at least .250????
Glasnow, WHAT THE HELL????
Cole, outside of one season, not even the best pitcher on staff at years end, but you know, he's our ace...
Andrew Lambo, Jose Tabata, Pedro Alvarez...  all suck
Am I missing anyone that we were promised would bring sustained success to our team only to leave us wondering why in the world we should trust this organization at all???

The next question is how long will it be before Crimson Ghost comes on and rips into you for stating the obvious.

Polanco is off to a slow start, seems to be coming around a bit. But he's been disappointing.

Bell is leading the team in home runs.  He's looked shaky, and really good at times. Guess that's part of being a rookie.

I agree, they missed the boat on trading Cutch. I get why they kept him because the uproar would have been terrible, but he's not what he used to be.  Never have seen an MVP level player get so bad so quickly, especially this young.

Glasnow is so dang frustrating. His previous two starts were encouraging, and last night...batting practice.  Still too soon to give up on a guy with his skill set.

Gerrit Cole is having a pretty awesome season, people probably aren't noticing because he has a bad record, but he's getting the worst run support in the league. His ERA and strikeout numbers are very good.

Not sure what guys that haven't played for the Pirates in years have to do with this team.

It's not just this team. The point I'm making is they held on to guys at the trade deadline those years where maybe all we needed was just one little piece to push us over the top. They told us it was to preserve the future. Well, you're seeing it. You honestly believe they are going to turn this around next season?

Feel free to disagree with anything I said.

The Pirates are broken this year.  The second Marte went down for 80 games, I knew that was it. Most people did.  Marte and Kang are the Pirates two best offensive players. Period.  They aren't able to bail them out right now.  Frazier and Freese coming back helps a bit. As long as those two aren't suiting up, and Taillon is out, they just aren't going to do much.  The only way they can overcome those losses if Andrew McCutchen becomes Andrew McCutchen again.

Next year?  It's hard to predict.  No matter what the Pirates do, they'll never be as good as the Cubs in the next 5-7 years.  If they spend a little money, they could go to the Wild Card again. But knowing this owner, that's like pulling teeth. So not holding my breathe there.

I mean, there's still plenty of pieces around that are valuable going into next year.  Personally, I'd trade Watson, Freese, and McCutchen and try to get as much as possible at the deadline. Maybe Cervelli too.

Going into next year, I'd still feel pretty good about Cole, Taillon, and Nova at the top of the rotation. Rivero and Nicasio in the pen.

And I'd feel pretty good about Polanco, Marte, Kang, and Bell in the middle of the order. I'd also like the idea of Meadows and Newman knocking on the door in AAA.

Again, that's a good core group. BUT, it'd be nice if the owner could go out and add a middle infielder better than Mercer or Harrison to add to that group.  Do I expect him too?  No.

The Pirates have a good group of guys still, but the owner needs to supplement the roster, which he never does.  That's the problem. The Pirates resigned Nova, which has turned out great. But their biggest free agent acquisition was Daniel Hudson, who stinks.  That's why this team sucks right now.  They need to spend more.

It could be worse with the 1985 dream team signings of has beens.  Amos Otis, Sixto Lezcano, Steve Kemp and Joggin' George Hendrick and they released the best one Rupert Jones. ..

Here lies the problem that I presented. What about this organization even suggests we should trust what they are doing? I don't think guys like Polonco and Bell are not big league worthy, it's just they were said to be all star caliber talent and they just aren't. Go back a few years when we legitimately had the opportunity to win a championship and it was guys like that the Pirates refused to put out there in order to "preserve the future". How's that looking now that the future is here?

If you don't think Polanco is big league worthy, not sure what to tell you. He'd start for all 30 teams.

Josh Bell has a higher average, better OPS, and the same amount of homers as Anthony Rizzo. Is he better than Rizzo, no. But he's not having the worst season to the point where he's not "major league worthy". It's just an inaccurate statement.
