[font=Calibri]After last season I thought they could be a perennial top 25ish team with the occasional top 10 caliber team and the occasional 8-4/7-5 type rebuilding season but after this season I think Penn State may have the ability to be better than that and could be a potential perennial top 10 team. PSU has went from recruiting very well to recruiting at an elite top 5 level and I think Franklin has shown the ability to recruit and hire young and talented coaches to surround himself with. I don’t think he is ever going to be a Nick Saban or Dantonio type of coach but he certainly has the chance to be one of the elite CEO type head coaches like a Dabo Swinney. He is still a very young head coach in his mid 40’s and is still improving. I thought he has done a better job of managing the team on the field every year and has shown a lot of improvement since his first season. He has only been a head coach for 7 years and is going to continue to improve and learn. If he can continue to surround himself with good coaches that fit what he wants to do and recruit with the best schools in the country, he will continue to be extremely successful and could get another couple shots at a run for a championship before his time at Penn State is over.[/font]

Lol there is a pretty big gap there between Saban and Dantonio. Dabo and James would be in between them 

I wasn't saying Dantonio was better than Dabo or Franklin. I was saying he is a different style. Dantonio is considered as more of a hands on head coach. The 'coach em up' coach. He's viewed more like a blue collar styled coach. Which is what a lot of Penn State fans wanted. Basically another Paterno style coach. James Franklin is viewed more as a CEO white collar type coach. Though that thought processes is starting to change for PSU fans as they realize both styles can be successful. I was saying Franklin is never going to be considered as a blue collar developmental coach. He will always be viewed as a CEO that surrounds himself with good coaches and win with superior athletes, much like Dabo is still viewed by most. Which is completely fine. All that matters is if you win or lose. By the way though, Dantonio has won double digit games at MSU 6 of the last 8 years and beat a lot of teams that were much more talented than his. That's extremely impressive to me and I don't think there is many coaches out there that could pull that off.  
 

So GoldenRamsFAN, what do you think the staying power of Penn State is under Franklin? Do you think they can maintain being a perennial top 10 team more often than not?

I personally think PSU will be a top 10 team for quite some time. It will be between them and OSU now for the divisional title. Until Michigan gets rid of Harbaugh I don’t see them being very relevant. He will get to 8-9 wins but never the big game.

I think as long as they play a weak out of conference schedule they will continue to be a top team. If they ever step outside the big ten and play some top teams on a consistent basis, they might not be up in the top tier. I would like to see them play at least one tough out of conference game every year if they are this top tier team like everyone believes.

Once the current Pitt series ends they will play VA Tech and Auburn in the OOC. With Franklin's ability to recruit not just PA but talent from all over I think they will be in the top 10 mix year in and year out. A lot of that will depend on how the QB situation progresses once McSorley graduates. Will Stevens stick around for his one year in the spotlight? I think the OC situation will be just fine under Rahne. Have a chance to add a couple more studs to an already amazing recruiting class this week.

Yeah I think Harbaugh will be fine at Michigan.  He turned Stanford into a powerhouse, took the Niners to the Super Bowl, and won 10 games in his first two seasons at Michigan. Just had a down year with a bad QB situation, They've recruited incredibly well, it's going to start translating  having Shea Patterson at QB will make a big difference for them.  That kid is really good. 

I don't think they can really hire a better coach.  I also wouldn't be shocked if the win the Big Ten next year.  The problem is Michigan fans have little patience. They need to beat Michigan State or Ohio State next year for sure though or they'll fire him for that alone.  

Big Ten East is tough.  Dantonio is a magician. Urban Meyer is obviously Urban Meyer. I guess I have more faith in Harbaugh than most. And if seems like a franklin will have PSU in the mix on most years as well.
