Pirates 2018

Methinks you have your headgear strapped on a bit too tight this eveningWrasslerfan wrote:thats because crimsons ghost and know it all are big apologistsabpk2903 wrote:I just don’t understand how anyone can defend the organization right now. I can pull up lots of prior threads on this very board about how 2017-2018 seasons were the Pirates “window” to be great. We heard they should keep this stock pile of prospects so they can make a run.
Also, the Pirates did a great job managing AJ Burnett? Let’s be real, they got lucky on a retread of a aging ailing pitcher for the 1st time in 20 years. Then refused to give him a fair deal so he spent time in Philly when he could have gotten the Pirates an additional win or two that would have won the division that year.
Oh yeah, speaking of giving away wins early in the year. Let’s discuss how this organization continuously leaves a talent player or two in Indy until mid June to avoid arbitration. They never bring their 25 best players north in April. They bring the 25 the best fit their budget north. If they didn’t give away a handful of wins with keeping talented players in Indy, they would have probably won at least 1 division title in that 13-15 window.
Worst professional sports team in America. Worse than the Browns.
Re: Pirates 2018
It's just the timing that the Pirates always have off too. They tried to move McCutchen last offseason after his worst year of professional baseball both at the plate and defensively. They are trying to move Cole this year after his worst professional season. In both situations, they have 2 years of control left. Why the impatience? Additionally, the best time to sell is the trading deadline. That is when the market yields the best return because some other owners are actually willing to pull the trigger on a big time player for a World Series push. If the Yanks or Red Sox or Dodgers or 'Stros or so on are sitting 3 games out of 1st place in mid-July but they have 2 starters on the DL, then they will give the Pirates a lot more for Cole than they will in January when the entire roster is healthy.
Re: Pirates 2018
Jay Bruce signed a three year thirty-nine million dollar deal to return to the New York Mets. Certainly the Pittsburgh Pirates can sign a quality free agent or two to help them in 2018.
Re: Pirates 2018
If the Pirates want to rebuild, OK. But call it that don't beat around the bush thinking your fans are stupid. Want to trade Cole? I have no problem with that. But you better get one of Whitley or Tucker back from Houston or Frazier and one of Andujar or Adams. GO ahead and trade Cutch and Harrison too, just make sure you get a good return. Not mid level prospects.

Jeremy Burnitz is not a quality free agent.

You guys have fun with your Bucs this year, I'll be happier watching local HS baseball, then Legion ball, College WS, and finally the Little League WS. Then it's time for football again.
It ain't over until it's over.

I'm with this guy. Little Leaguers will swing at balls right down the middle.Manfred wrote:You guys have fun with your Bucs this year, I'll be happier watching local HS baseball, then Legion ball, College WS, and finally the Little League WS. Then it's time for football again.

Yep and now they should have the Yankees and Astros competing against each other, no reason to not good a good return here.crfball wrote:If the Pirates want to rebuild, OK. Re: Pirates 2018
There's nothing to suggest that they will. I think 3/39 was the same deal they gave to Liriano, and that was the highest deal the Pirates ever shelled out. I don't have any faith they are going to do that.knowitall wrote:Jay Bruce signed a three year thirty-nine million dollar deal to return to the New York Mets.
