2-2 against the Mets, and of course the game I thought they'd lose, they beat deGrom 5-0.  Go figure.

Big week coming up with 2 against the Cubs, 3 against the Cardinals all at home. OH, and the trade deadline Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday 7:05 - Jameson Taillon (7-8 3.73) vs. Jon Lester (12-3 3.06)
Wednesday 7:05 - Nick Kingham (5-5 4.80) vs. Cole Hamels (5-9 4.72)

That's some pitching matchup on Tuesday, I decided to go to the game on Wednesday.  Maybe I picked the wrong one.

So what happens this week?  Any trades?

The Pirates are only 12-16 against lefty starters this year and they face 2 very good ones in Lester and Hamels. Also facing a lefty takes Moran out of the lineup, neutralizes Polanco, and usually guarantees that we see SRod somewhere. I think the stats favor a Cub sweep, but my gut tells me that Kingham bounces back and the Bucs can get to Hamels. I predict a split.

As far as a trade, as I stated before, I would only do it for a bonafide top of the rotation guy (in Pittsburgh) like an Archer, deGrom, or maybe even Wheeler. The 2 Baltimore starters (Bundy and Gausman) are not an upgrade over what they already have IMHO. I’m still not sold on the Pirates as a contender so I would sincerely stand pat, unless they can somehow align the stars to add one of the previously named. My gut tells me they’ll make a move to appease the fans, however.

I think he's better than every starter they have besides Taillon and Musgrove. His numbers will probably be a bit better getting out of the AL East.  But yeah, I'm sort of lukewarm on him.  He's alright, he's better than 3/5 of their rotation, but not THAT much better.

I don't think it would be a bad deal. I think he has two years of control too, so he would virtually replace Ivan Nova for next season. But yeah I could be talked into or out of this trade.  I don't have a super strong feeling on it.

Pirates go out and get Keone Kela from Texas for Taylor Hearn and a PTBNL.  Nice move, gives the Pirates another big bullpen arm under control.

If the starters can get to the seventh inning, you have Crick, Kela, and Vazques waiting - not a bad trio.

I think this was a very good acquisition. I would lineup that backend of Crick, Kela, and Vasquez with anyone in the league. The question is, do you remove Crick from the 8th inning where he’s been more than dominant? I personally would not. I would use Kela in the 7th, keep Crick in the 8th, and shut it down with Vasquez. However, I won’t fuss with however they choose to deploy these 3. Nice move NH!!!

Sounds like the Pirates are in on Chris Archer. Which is fine, I’m cool if they do it. But they got such a bad return for Gerrit Cole and they’re gonna have to give up a lot for Archer. Seems like they didn’t think it through.

Tampa just acquired Tommy Pham for three suspects.  Are they buying or selling?

Pirates have a deal in place for Archer. The package includes Meadows and Glasnow.
