Ohio State at Penn State

This is probably the biggest game of the year so far in CFB and the winner will be in the drivers seat for a shot at a conference championship and playoff berth. Both teams have great offenses. Ohio State has a better defense but neither defense is a top tier defense at this point in the season. Penn States defense is very young and inconsistent but talented. They’ll look great for a quarter and lost the next. PSUs special teams have been very good this season, especially in the return game and coverage units but the field goal unit is a little shaky. I think it’ll be a fun game but Ohio State comes out on top. I’ll say Ohio State wins 38 to 31.

3 major take aways from this game.

1. Franklin looks like a bozoo again after that 4th down call and 4th quarter collapse. Questions are going to be asked if he can coach a team to "Win the big game"

2. Neither team looks worthy of the CFB playoff atm. I think both Penn State and Ohio State would be run over by a handful of other teams right now. Side note UCF should be in that conversation until someone can actually beat them.

3. Recruiting field goal kickers has to be a must for these major programs. The mediocre kicking game also cost penn state the win tonight.

I think mainly what cost Penn State the game was that their DBs could not tackle in the open field - giving up some big plays to OSU receivers in the second half.  That being said - what a game by McSorley.  The QB position is so important in football at every level but I think it is most important in college football.  He makes them a really hard team to beat.

How important is it for Franklin? Then why did he leave McSorley in the game at Heinz Field so long, when PSU enjoyed such an insurmountable lead late in the game and the weather conditions being so atrocious? Did he give any thoughts about his QB getting hurt or lost for the season? THINK for once!

A couple questions:  Was this post in reply to mine?  And if so...
What's your problem?  -  and -   What does Franklin have to do with what I posted?  All I said was that the QB position is important and McSorley is really good.  My comment had nothing to do with Franklin or how he manages games.

The offense works they’ve proven it. If they used “clock“ mentality with their offense none of this would have been an issue. In last 8 minutes with that 12 pt lead , psu snapped the ball with more than 10 sec on play clock a bunch... keep doing everything else they do, RUN on 3rd down, and they take almost 2 more minutes off the clock, and ohio state’s possession with 1:22 left never happens
Joe wasn’t the greatest ever, but he Never lost clock management and rarely a lead. You can adapt and change with the times but you don’t reinvent the wheel. And this is what kills a lot of people

BlueYonder: Don't be offended. The topic involves Penn State, right? YES, I was replying to your post. You told everyone just how important the QB position is, especially to this PSU team. Why doesn't Franklin realize how important it is? He's played McSorley a lot the first 4 games, when he really didn't have to. He should not have been in as long vs Pitt, Kent State and Illinois. Franklin is playing with fire, risking catastrophe for his offense. Comprende?

IMO, it has to do with the fact the committee not only cares about your wins and who they were against, but also by how much. Pulling Trace and winning by 30 doesn't look as good in the end as leaving him in longer and winning by 50

Does this also work for how bad you lose? 1982: Penn State loses to Alabama 42-21 midway thru the season, but was STILL given the National Championship after being destroyed by the Tide. Gotta work both ways, right?
