Just saw Homer-Center's Angel Piccirrillo went 4:39 in the 1600. Unbelievable time. Shattered states record by 13 seconds. 6 seconds off of national record. In the same race, ECC's Weisner broke the state record also at 4:49

Also Richland's Paige Lumley got 2nd in 100 hurdles.

Congrats!

Picc is an excellent runner, she will do well at VillanovaU. Great run getting the PIAA record. She even bested the AAA girls 1600m record, held by former Upper Dublin standout, and US Olympian, the late Kim Gallagher.

However, watch for this name: Mary Cain from NY. I watched her sit on Piccarillo in the Penn Relays Invitational HS Girls mile a month ago and then drop a 64 last 440yd while blowing by Piccarillo like she was standing still in running 4:38, beating Piccarillo by 6 seconds. BTW, Cain is a sophomore. Sick talent.

If you missed this meet you missed the best one EVER!!! Tons of records falling, multiple athletes breaking state records in the same events. A jumping coaches dream watching the talent there. Super middle distance and distance runners and some studly throwing. Been going for twenty years and this one topped all of them I have ever been to. Just scroll down through the results on this meet, and see how many records were crushed. Congrats to the local athletes!! Super job!!

titan... yeah i read about that race and how piccirillo said it woke her up (she had won previous two penn relays). I read the soph's time was 4:39 though and then something like .23. either way, though, it is obviously unbelievable for a soph to go that low BUT at the moment i'm focusing on a great run by a local product.

Piccirillo's time today was also 4:39 but I think it was around .37 or something like that, putting it just behind soph's time. I don't know about you but its awfully impressive to me to go 4:39 when 2nd place was 10 seconds slower.

one national high school track site has the best time this year 4:41, established a few days ago at a district meet (obviously not recognizing the penn relays time). anyway, both races (penn relays by ny girl and this one by piccirillo) were phenomenal.

couple other notes from an awesome day at states:

- south park's bill stanley unloaded the best javelin toss since it was re-weighted in 2002 at around 246 feet.

- richland's paige lumley had the states record and first place in the triple jump until Brookville's Newsome jumped about 2 in futher on her last jump

1:51 high in the AAA boys 800m by Penn Hills's Wil Bailey was a 2+ second PR for him. That's like running two :55mid 400m races back to back...

titan, just reread your first post one here and had to chuckle:

titan's history of posting on this site:

- local team is doing well; titan: they play in a weak conference
- local team wins district; titan: wait until they play wpial team
- local player dominates; titan: good BUT look at the competition
- local team is best in the west; titan: wait until they play...
- local player wins state championship; titan: down year, would never have won it in...
- local player wins sate championship and breaks state record; titan: player in new york is better...

whats next:
- local player wins state championship and breaks national record; titan: jimbob in lithuania is much better.

what is up? why do you always like to knock down? is this just a d6 thing? or is it towards all mankind? seem to think there are some that get spared from your tendency to denigrate instead of celibrate because I only seem to remember you saying sparkling hyperbole about geno thorpe

Not knocking anyone down at all. Just posting factual information about Mary Cain and about a race I watched a month ago. Cain is an amazing talent; so is Piccarillo. Piccarillo is a fantastic runner who now holds the PIAA record at 1600m. She will do well at Villanova. Marcus O'Sullivan and Gina Procaccio are excellent coaches in the middle distances and will train her well.

Why so sensitive?

not a big deal. more than anything talking about your history of posting (just don't get why you always focus so much on negative regarding athletes from this area). like you just mentioned, you aren't really doing that with piccirillo.

some people think cain is best young female mid- to long-distance runner since mary decker. that's a lot to live up to.

Paige Lumley has been one of the most impressive athletes I have seen in district 6 history. Not sure how many medals this young lady has garnered but she has had a sterling career. It is just a shame that she did not catch a little more luck. I was really hoping she would win the triple jump. She showed such heart, jumping over 40 ft on here last jump in the finals to break the state record by nearly a foot, just to have it taken away 45 seconds later as last years champ passed her by two inches. Terrible luck, heck that state record was from 1994. Anyhow congrats on the three state medals from this year and good luck in any future endevors!
