Re: Rivalry Week in the LHAC
This is not aimed at Johnstown, as I think Johnstown is dealing with some unique circumstances that most other schools don't. But the more games I see, the more apparent it becomes that teams with good coaches have a clear advantage. Having good athletes helps, but good coaches can make a big difference. McCort has some size and some good athletes, why are they so bad? Same for Westmont, but no need to really say anything else there.

Completely agree with coaching.
Completely agree with flex bone comment.
Everybody wants to sit in the shotgun and think they can run spread or air raid offenses. TD said that three snaps went over the qb's head. That is a killer.
Bad snaps, sacks , incomplete passes because coaches see college teams run these offenses.
Credit to the teams like Westmont (double wing), Gouse led Portage (wing T days), Windber (single wing). Get rid of sitting in the shotgun and go back to the qb under center offenses.

Have you watched a Westmont game? That double wing as Westmont runs it should be banned from football. It is not 1955.
If you go down 14 points, you lose in that offense. It's a disservice to the kids that there are no changes to suit personnel or situations. Football is about fooling the defense with the unknown, adjusting to what the defense gives you, and hoping those adjustments work. Bashing forward, with your head down, is not football in 2023.

Pat Barron was coached under a more modern style, but Westy had a few really bad years there, and the grunt & punt style at least wins them a few games every year.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: Rivalry Week in the LHAC
Football is not about fooling your opponent, it is about out executing them. Yes you need to make adjustments, but it is more important to impose your will against them. I don't care what style you run, those are the things that win football games.bigtube wrote: ↑September 25th, 2023, 11:38 am Have you watched a Westmont game? Re: Rivalry Week in the LHAC
Johnstown losing 42-0 to an awful Bishop McCort team is just another low point for the JHS football program and getting shut out in 5/6 games this season is probably an even lower point. It might be time for the school district to at least consider dropping the entire football program since it’s just a complete joke at this point.Crimson's Ghost wrote: ↑September 23rd, 2023, 6:54 amThey should have a chance against McCort on Friday I would think. McCort is only 6-27 since the start of the 2020 season, so it hasn't been much better for the school up the street.

I see a Conemaugh Valley-Ferndale-Greater Johnstown co-op in the very near future. Those lights at John Jake Jacoby Field at Yewcic Stadium were a wise investment!

Re: Rivalry Week in the LHAC
Are there any schools the size of Johnstown that do not have a football program?
