Aliquippa to 5A

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

Aliquippa is being forced to move to 5A next season, per the PIAA competitive balance rule. The Quips had a reported male enrollment of 118 this year, playing in 4A, which they won the state title with a 14-0 record. For perspective, 118 boys is the same number Northern Cambria had reported for the past two cycles.

Aliquippa's numbers for the upcoming cycle would make them AA next year (156), but they will likely be playing teams like North Hills who has a reported male population of 586 according to the initial classification report.

Aliquippa is appealing the decision.

I think 5A might be a bit excessive. They do get the transfers in for sports, but why wouldn't you with the success they have. They're sending loads of kids to college. I just wish more schools would move up on their own or the PIAA would make them for private/charter ability. It's better for these kids to be able to get together and play with equal college level talent, but not at the expense of the smaller public schools.

Imani Christian is going from 1A to 6A in basketball just as Kennedy Catholic did. Though too little too late, they already won their championship at the lower level. Again, I'd even be okay with open recruitment as long as they were then held to a different standard.

It’s just crazy that a team that is voluntarily playing up is being forced up even further, especially when they already had this battle 2 years ago. Why can’t they say, “fine, we’re electing to go back to our regular classification” and then get bumped to 4A.

Meanwhile Southern Columbia is hiding in the corner somehow evading all attention while winning what 5 championships in a row?

Yet, you've got private schools recruiting an all-star roster that covers 5 or 6 counties that are permitted to play 1A or 2A. What a scam and what a shame.

The PIAA is challenging 23 kids on the roster as transfers. If even half of those are legit, they aren't the typical 1A public school. With that being said, the PIAA is a joke refusing to address the advantage private schools have. Clown organization.

Total nonsense, they openly admit that they get transfers and willingly play up 3 classes. Anyone that truly believes that southern columbia has won all of those titles with homegrown kids is a fool. Yet they are still in AA, and their attorney will make sure that they are there yet again next year. And then there are the privates and catholics.........
