Game of the week? Portage vs Homer Center

Post by youngbuck »

This appears to be a very even matchup that if BG was not around could be the A district title game.   Can Portage's ground game be stopped by Homer Center?  Do the Wildcats ride Jesse Lee to another win this year?

Homer Center dominated the match up last year. HC has returned most of their starters. Portage has had some new stars emerge and look more dynamic than last year, however still lack a passing game. HC looks like they have a decent passing game. I think this may be the difference.

Also, I don't know how creative these teams will get in this first match up. This might just be a run the ball slugfest

The more athletic Portage line on both sides wears down the bigger yet less fit HC line and Portage wins 44 - 19.

Agreed, knowing that both teams have excellent coaches I doubt either coach will show much in this game knowing they could meet again in a few weeks

Did any of the crossover schools meet in the playoffs last year?

Does Portage really do that much different ever, you see them once you know what they are going to do offensive ly.

Portage is running their offense mostly out of the gun this year. Still not much for passing, which hinders the run game completely.

I don't believe any of the games were repeats.

Portage has a few different things they been trying this year on offense not sure how it will pan out in this game or the playoffs..but most new plays have had modest success.
Both Portage and HC are playing for 2nd place in 6A standings, which I do believe would give the winner home field advantage till or through the 6A semi's..?

If Homer Center and Portage do meet in a district semifinal game, is home field advantage in that game more important to HC or Portage? Is it worth going all out to win this crossover game?
