Wood bats have been obsolete in recreational leagues since 1976 or so.

Amen. I've been saying that since the AAABA went back to wood. It has shortened the games though.

Perhaps it's time to abolish high school baseball? With the increase in games with AAMe and something known as fall ball and the growing fragility of pitcher's arms something has to give. Most schools don't have sufficient pitchers to play four or five games per week.

To coach all of one's players in the summer time one would have to possibly coach a junior league team, a legion team, a colt league team and a pony league team.

There's no systems in baseball. You don't have to learn an offense or a defense. You just go out and pitch, hit and field. It's not necessary for the high school coach to also coach his players in the summertime.

Baseball has always had long established summer leagues with their own dedicated coaches. In fact I would argue that summer baseball was traditionally more important than high school baseball.

Shouldn't teachers be as dedicated if not more dedicated to his students than a coach?
