Mustangs on the move
Mustangs on the move
Portage has just been announced as the newest member of the Heritage Conference, leaving the WestPAC. Athletic participation will not begin until the 22-23 school year, but they will be a part of the Heritage this fall in all non-sports.
Re: Mustangs on the move
The WestPAC is crumbling. CV and Ferndale entered a co-op last year for football. Shade and CT will co-op this year. That will leave the WestPAC with no more than seven teams in 2022. The WestPAC is apparently in talks to join the ICC for football as a whole.
Blairsville and Saltsburg are merging and will be called the River Valley Panthers.
All this per Mike Mastovich and the Tribune Democrat.

Re: Mustangs on the move
WestPAC talking to ICC?? I don't think so. The ICC is an all-sports conference that already has 17 teams and spans geographically from Franklin County (Fannett-Metal) to Southern District 9 (Curwensville) and is the only regional league that has been stable over the last dozen or so years with no moves other than Curwensville coming in next year. I have heard the WestPAC and ICC have entered into a bye week agreement for 2022-23 for football creating some interesting crossover games but I cannot imagine any type of merger. If your betting on a WestPAC move, and yes they are defintely crumbling, look for more to do what Portage did and suddenly you have the old Appalachian Conference (or close to it) again.
Re: Mustangs on the move
Copy and paste from today's Tribune Democrat article by Mike Mastovich:
“We have been talking with the ICC a year ago, ‘What if things change?’ We haven’t formally applied to the ICC, but we had talked six months ago.
“Maybe the WestPAC would have a section in the ICC if they would so allow it,” he added.
“Again, we didn’t talk any further than football back at that time.”
Will the CV-Ferndale co-op be sufficient to field a team in two or three years? How promising is Blacklick Valley and North Star's football futures? How about United's?

How about Berlin co-opping with the leftovers nearby and joining the LHAC?
