Comments from West Middlesex Offensive Coordinator, Joel Murray

What makes him a leader?
The kid has a “never say die” attitude. The game is never out of reach for him. This gives his teammates motivation for success. Trey will never back down from a challenge and will defend his team under any circumstances.

What are his strengths?
Very coachable. He understands that he is still growing as a player both physically and mentally. Good arm strength. Very powerful in regards to initiating contact. Difficult to tackle due to lower body mass and strength.

How has he grown as a player?
Trey is able to check down to an audible now that he can read defenses quicker. As a coach, its nice to have a QB able to do that. He also recognizes the importance of the little things such as us asking a him to block for his RB’s, and carrying out ball fakes consistently, that he didn’t necessarily feel that important when he was younger.

When he first entered your program did you know he would be special?
Absolutely. Trey has been a physical presence since he was in Little League. He was that kid that could play any sport competitively with kids that were two and three years older than him.

What is he like on the practice field? He is not often satisfied. He is always striving to be able to run the play, defend, block, pass better.

What was the most amazing thing you’ve seen him do?
He had to unexpectedly start his first ever Varsity football game as a Freshman on the first game of the season versus AA powerhouse Hickory. Our senior QB got injured the week prior in our second scrimmage and Trey was our backup. It was a nerve-racking week for him, but come Friday night, he acted as if he had been there several times before.

What are you expecting from him this year?
We expect him to run the ball from the QB position a lot more this year, and to make some big plays downfield in our passing game. We are also asking him to drop down to the D-line more often on defense. We are going to put him in positions in which he can have the greatest impact, and we expect that he will deliver.
