Historical time travel!

Post by Coach »

If you had the ability to go back in time and you could witness any historical event first hand (sports or non sports), what would it be? Every time I visit Gettysburg, it makes me think I would like to go back in time to when Pickett's charge was taking place. Imagine being a witness to those couple hours of fighting. Unreal.

Patton's charge to relieve Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge would be mine.

The crucifixion. Like it or not, the greatest event in the history of man.
It ain't over until it's over.

I'd love to witness the resurrection of Jesus....now that is the greatest event in the history of man!

Yes, I should have been a little more specific- the crucifixion -AND- the resurrection. One event led directly to the other.
It ain't over until it's over.

I'd love to overlook Gettysburg during the battle.

Well, it would be really lucky to be able to attend this kind of event, don't you think.

Coach, thank you for providing a topic that makes my tail wag. Those are all solid choices. Going back to the grassy knoll would be a good one. Watching Iwo Jima get shelled and bombed would be pretty crazy. Watching Gettysburg/Antietam/Austerlitz/Waterloo from overhead would be insane. When you see maps you only see blue and red lines in the Civil War, but what you don't see is the horses and wagons. How hard it was to get men to move to the right locations/coordination without direct communication. You take a set of walkie talkies to the battle of Gettysburg and you're looking at a completely different event. The movie Gettysburg is a classic and well done, but if you did it with the historical accuracy of Saving Private Ryan, most would be throwing up. I know I'm not walking into Cushing's double cannister fire....
