What coaches do kids want to play for?
What coaches do kids want to play for?
It seems like a recurring theme is discussion of coaches being the reason that kids don't want to play, so instead of being negative, which coaches are the ones that have gotten. More kids playing or the ones that have fought more players for their system..
I think that Brandon Bailey is one.

Kids want coaches who are their buddy. Really doesn't work that way for the best, whether it's the player or the team.

I think Marabito has grown the program at United. Would think that kids like him, don't see him as being a buddy.

Guess that's who he's talking about. Larry doesn't coach football anymore. Thought he was a great motivator, not so much on game day..

What about the Tyrone Coach, he is younger, what is the word from the Golden Eagle crew?
Also wonder about Windber's coach as that program has dropped off.

Wilson in Tyrone isn't a huge speech guy but he is the smartest guy in any room he is in. His players realize that and want to win with him. I hear good things about the new Mount Union coach as well. Young and fiery, pushing those Trojans hard but hasn't had a single kid quit. The kids say he challenges and pushes them harder than they have ever been pushed, but he supports them constantly and that's why they won't quit.
Re: What coaches do kids want to play for?
Kids are quitting at the peewee level now. A local peewee power of a few years ago had 13 kids initially sign up to play junior high. A few of the peewees did find religion and are now playing elsewhere so I'm not so sure how much of an effect the high school coach has on getting kids to play anymore.
Windber took the lead in dropping its tackle football teams at the peewee level. It will be interesting to see how that works for them. I don't think the new stadium will have much of an effect

Marabito has done a great job at United getting kids to come out who maybe played in midgets and didn't like the previous two coaches. He is a no non-sense guy, but he has embraced the community and they in turn have embraced him. People are genuinely excited for the first time in a long time.
