LIGONIER — Collin Smith figured in on five touchdowns to help Ligonier Valley earn its first win over Penns Manor in five years, 47-6, in a Heritage Conference football game Friday night at Weller Field.
Smith hooked up with Aaron Tutino for three touchdowns. He also connected with Josh Fitz for a touchdown before scoring again on the ground.
Aaron Sheeder put Ligonier Valley on the board first when he capped a six-play, 49-yard drive with a 6-yard touchdown run on the Rams’ first possession of the night.
Smith extended Ligonier Valley’s lead by hitting Tutino for a 56-yard touchdown on the third play of the Rams’ following drive to make the score 14-0 with 5:49 left in the first quarter.
Penns Manor staged a 10-play, 27-yard drive to score its only touchdown on its first possession of the second quarter. Trent Franks bulled his way into the end zone from 2 yards to cap the drive and make the score 14-6.
But Smith made sure that Penns Manor’s touchdown celebration was short-lived when he tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tutino with 4:07 left in the first half to make the score 21-6.
The Smith-to-Tutino show didn’t end there, however.
In what was the most crippling play of the night for the Comets, Smith heaved a 78-yard touchdown pass to Tutino with 41 seconds left in the half to give the Rams a 27-6 lead and essentially put the thought of a Penns Manor comeback to rest.
Smith fired a 17-yard touchdown pass to Fitz with 5:45 left in the third quarter to extend Ligonier Valley’s lead to 28 points, 34-6.
Smith scored on a 20-yard run with 3:25 left in the game before Austin Tutino scored from 2 yards with 2:46 left to stretch the Rams’ lead to 41 points, 41-6

Hmmmm, only plays a half, that does not appear to be true

1 game out 7 he played 8 minutes into the second half....that's a little over 14% of the time he played in the second half...so that means he had only played in the 1st half 86% of the games....so let's translate this a little...against MC he only played the first quarter and was out at half time against the other 5 opponents....also, I stated that he BARELY plays a half...no doubt, he's the best player in the area...quite possibly on both sides of the ball...but everyone has their own opinion...

So Artrell leaves and now he only gets 20 touches in 7 games?

Would've loved to have seen what Chadbourn and Booth would've ended their senior seasons with. Chadbourn obviously missing the entire season. Booth was on pace for 1,700 yards and 30 TD's. I think this has to go to Smith.

They also went from the school's all time leading passer to a new starter, I think that has something to do with his production dropping. I don't think Artrell was offensive coordinator last year, was he?

Definitely going to have to side with Crimson here.  It's not like he had a ton of carries last year.  He did his damage catching passes. The QB has much more to do with that than any coach could.  With that being said, they are currently 7-0...  Some people just always have to complain and blame the coach for something I guess.
