District 5-6-9-10 Playoffs

Post by GoDragons »

District 6 Class 1A

Eight of the 12 playoff berths are filled, Bishop Guilfoyle, Moshannon Valley, Portage, Juniata Valley, Williamsburg, Northern Cambria, Homer-Center and Blairsville. BG is the top seed. Homer-Center has locked up a top-four seed and a first-round bye. Mo Valley and Portage only need to defeat Williamsburg and Blairsville, respectively, at home to nail down the other top-four seeds. The fifth seed also might get a bye if the 12th-place team decides not to participate. Juniata Valley currently is there, but the Green Hornets could be overtaken by Northern Cambria whether they beat Everett on Friday night or not. Williamsburg appears destined for eighth and first-round home game, but the Pirates could move into seventh if they upend Mo Valley while Blairsville loses at Portage.

Claysburg-Kimmel remains in contention. If the Bulldogs can find a way to win at struggling Mount Union on Friday, they’ll pass at least Penns Manor and Purchase Line and qualify for the postseason. Saint Joseph’s also could find its way with a little help if it beats Philipsburg-Osceola; the school is weighing whether or not it should participate.

District 6 Class 2A

The teams are set — Bellwood- Antis, Heights, Mount Union, Ligonier Valley, McCort, Westmont, Southern Huntingon and West Shamokin. Ligonier will be the No. 1 seed with a win at Conemaugh Township in Saturday’s Appalachian Bowl or a Bellwood loss at home to Northern Bedford. A Blue Devil defeat also opens the door a sliver for McCort to move up, but, more than likely, B-A would remain second. Barring an upset win at Johnstown, Heights will wind up eighth. West Shamokin and Southern Huntingdon are likely to beat Ferndale and Glendale this weekend and moving up to sixth and seventh, respectively.

District 5 Class 1A

In Class 1A, Conemaugh Township has clinched the top seed and will host fourth-seeded Shade in the semifinals. Northern Bedford needs a Meyersdale loss to finish second and host a semifinal game.

District 5-8 Class 2A

Ridge and Berlin already are part of the District 5-8 Class 2A bracket, but neither controls their own destiny to get the top seed. That would go to Westinghouse should it win against Brashear in the Pittsburgh City League semifinals on Thursday. A Westinghouse win also eliminates Everett, even if the Warriors win at Juniata Valley this week, because the Bulldogs would be playing in the City championship and unable to join the subregional tournament until the finals. Ridge will overtake Berlin by beating Tyrone. If both lose, Berlin gets the higher seed of the two. Everett only can make it as the fourth seed if Westinghouse loses.

District 5-6-9 Class 4A

Clearfield, Johnstown and DuBois will be three of the four teams in the District 5-6-9 Class 4A field. Somerset will round out the field if it can beat BG or if Bald Eagle Area knocks off Bellefonte. Clearfield will be the top seed if it beats Karns City or Johnstown loses to Heights.

District 6-8-10 Class 5A ‎

Hollidaysburg is going to the District 6-8-10 Class 5A playoffs, but the Tigers might not play for a while. Brashear would have met the District 6 winner, but the Bulls opted not to enter the playoffs. Central Mountain, which just lost to Hollidaysburg on Monday by 29 points at home, might not enter, either, leaving the Tigers two weeks off before playing the District 10 champion.

District 6-10 Class 6A

State College and McDowell wrapped up the top two positions in District 6-10 Class 6A long ago and will face each other for that subregion championship.

The above is from Altoona Mirror which may explain why United was not mentioned.
