Class A State Title Thread: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Clairton
Bishop Guilfoyle (14-0) vs. Clairton (14-0)
Friday 1:00
The rematch. BG beat Clairton 19-18 in a memorable 2014 State Championship game. Now they meet again.
Clairton has the top ranked recruit in Pennsylvania, 5 star cornerback Lamont Wade. He's their star running back and the biggest factor on their defense as well. He's the real deal, and his final schools consist of Pitt, Penn State, WVU, UCLA, and Tennessee. The Bears also feature Noah Hamlin. He's a senior and will also play Division One football somewhere next season. The two of them are very tough to slow down in open space. Clairton also only has 5 seniors on their roster. This team relies on a lot of underclassmen.
I think we are all familiar with Bishop Guilfoyle. They feature four kids committed to play FCS football QB/DB Josh Trybus (Bucknell), RB/LB Andrew Irwin (Harvard), Luke Frederick TE/DE (Delaware). And also RB/DB Evan Chadbourn. He's been out all season with an ACL tear that occurred on June 30. But he played a few snaps last week, will he play more against Clairton? The Marauders have some talented underclassmen as well and a massive and imposing offensive line. BG also hasn't lost since 2013 and has the fifth longest winning streak in the nation.
Tons of good storylines in this game, post your thoughts and predictions here.

This game is going to be one for the ages and will quite likely be Déjà vu of the 2014 clash. After seeing both teams play in person, I can say that Lamont Wade is a challenge to stop (offensively & defensively), but so are the monstrous lineman from BG. Wade will break away on one or two for a 50+ yard score and BG's defense will force a few turnovers. Fluke plays are going to determine the winner of this one, along with whichever team is able to capitalize on the other's mistakes. Will BG's defense shut them down to single digits? Never say never. However, I think the state's top recruit shines through with the loss of two years ago in the back of his mind.
Prediction: Clairton 26 Bishop Guilfoyle 24

Clariton has BG's kryptonite ----- speed
Re: Class A State Title Thread: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Clairton
IF BG stops Wade they'll win by 21.
....I don't think they'll stop Wade. I'm still taking BG.

Johnstown had plenty of speed too, BG still won.

The demolition that BG has laid on opponents in the playoffs is scary. BG will dominate the line of scrimmage and time of possession, but Clairton will break some big plays.
BG's weakest link is kickoff coverage. There is no way they can risk a return by Wade or Hamlin. Somerset found this Achilles heel. Wheeler and McGhee will be watching the wind on every kick and deciding to try for the touchback or kick it out of bounds.
Bottom Line: The Marauders can't shut down the Bears, but the Bears don't match up across the line or in disciplined execution.
BG 35, Clairton 20
