The McCort tackle numbers are accurate.  I've helped with the stats for a few years.  The computer program used can only take up to 2 tacklers per play.

The stats the night of the game are the stats used, the coaching staff doesn't go back and change them.

Your broad-brush comment that private schools either dominate or are just plain lousy may hold water on the state level, but I only follow the local Bishops.  McCort, Carroll, and BG have all had far more seasons of mediocrity than dominance or embarrassment.
Well when the local privates are good, they've all made state championships, only one other local team has made it

I understand what you are saying, but before BG's recent tear, McCort and Carroll made it to the finals only once with both losing.  Not exactly setting the world on fire.

On the public side, Tyrone won it all in 1999 and lost in 1996 and 2011.  State College lost in the finals in 2009.  Forest Hills lost in the finals in 1994.

Overall, D6 public schools are 1-4 in state championship games and D6 private schools are 3-2.  That's 10 appearances overall in 118 title games.

If you focus on single-A specifically, D7 represented "our" side of the bracket the vast majority of the time.  It didn't really matter who came out of D5/6 as they couldn't get past Rochester, Duquesne, Farrell or Clairton.
