Making Single A Fun Again
Making Single A Fun Again
Imagine a world in which the U of BG had to play in a higher class where they belong. How much fun would it be discussing and watching all of these D6 Class A teams battle it out. Literally any team in the top 8 could win on any given night. Just taking the last two standing this year how much discussion could we have on who would win a D6 Title game between Homer Center and Juniata Valley??
But instead we get to watch a team that routinely beats AAA and AAAA teams all year come down and roll up 50 week after week giving the rest of the field nothing to really play for. What a shame.........

If coaching isn't a huge part of success why are the same public schools at the top forest hills, bellwood, portage, southern Columbia etc. ? Ask Tyron, BC if coaching matters!Fballrules17 wrote:The other teams just need to work harder and find better coaches. lol.

It would be an absolute joke if Juniata Valley was the D6 champion. They had a good year but should not be anywhere near the top 4 in the state. No disrespect but juniata valley is not a good team

We will disagree on the Hornets. But that isn't really the point here anyway...fdc173 wrote:It would be an absolute joke if Juniata Valley was the D6 champion. They had a good year but should not be anywhere near the top 4 in the state. No disrespect but juniata valley is not a good team

Re: Making Single A Fun Again
Im a LHAC guy, my team is not BG, but I must say when the playoffs start I cheer for D6. In my honest opinion I would say BG is where they are due to a great coaching staff, Wheeler is a very good coach. I would rather see BG go every year and win the single A championship then a team like the Clariton Bears who have no respect for there opponents they bad mouth, start fights, throw punches, have a disrespectful coach etc. And lets face it in the last three years there wasnt a single A team in D6 that could have beaten Ferrell or Clariton. (And aside from BG there isnt one that can do it this year either) So instead of complaining about an issue that we have no power over lets embrace it and hope they bring another state championship back our way and represent D6.

Notice how questions like these are never really answered? These threads are like watching a presidential debate where rhetoric and things “people have been saying for years” are repeated without substance. How’s this for a solution? Since everyone loves comparing private schools to co-ops and want enrollments combined, shut down all the football ( basketball, soccer, whatever) programs in the public schools these privates are pulling from-only have one program and combine your enrollment and get a AAAAAA team to compete with WPIAL etc? Get the best coaching staff to coach there and now we are all one big happy family! Your public school would still get all their tax money, the people going only “for athletics” to private schools would go back to their home districts, and the ones there for all the other things they offer, can stay. Kind of like what they do in hockey now. Privates get all the money generated from the sporting events, keep their doors open, publics get all the tax money (like they do anyway) to keep their doors open-everybody is happySafetyblitz wrote:If coaching isn't a huge part of success why are the same public schools at the top forest hills, bellwood, portage, southern Columbia etc. ? Well maybe rhetorical questions should not be posted then genius. We know coaching is huge, but so is not having any district boundaries. All we ask is the team not play single A sports because of their advantage. Why is this so hard to understand? or why is this so hard to say, "Yes, that's not bad. We'll still thrive at AA". Are you really that afraid of not winning and having the enrollment drop, because that's the only logical excuse that makes any sense. Just because privates schools have the advantage doesn't mean that public schools can't do well too. The years the local privates didn't have State-Champion caliber teams, HC, Bellwood, and PM have won at the A level. With the six classifications, playing up to AA (previously A), shouldn't be an issue.Realityhits02 wrote:Notice how questions like these are never really answered? So you’d be great with consolidating all the schools into one “super team”? Just curious if you’re saying eliminating borders and bringing together an all star team is such a huge advantage, then why not do it on a large scale and give all these area kids some major exposure? No need to get defensive, not claiming to be a “genius”, but I share your frustration on not understanding how someone doesn’t see the point-I’m just on the other side of it-so maybe there are two sides, and neither is a 100% right or wrong? For the record, I’m not “afraid” of not winning, just trying to see both sides...try it sometime

When someone has an advantage that's not allowed for the competitor, yet they compete in the same class, that's called an unfair advantage.
All other things being equal: coaching, practice intensity, etc. If the team who doesn't have to follow that one rule that their competitor does, if they use that benefit to their advantage well enough, they will always win every time.
