Re: Going back
1992 was just a championship game between Forest Hills and Mount Union. Forest Hills was 9-0-1 entering the game and Mount Union was 9-1.sasquatch260 wrote:Thanks. I would have like to see how far United went that year. May not have got past FH, but it was a pretty good team, as was LV. The playoff brackets must have been awfully small though in AA for a good 9-1 team to not make it. Do you know the playoff history that year? I can't remember.LVCoachFoust wrote:Yes there was District 6 AA playoffs in 1992. I don't think United qualified with an 8-1 regular season record. They ended up 9-1 overall. Laurel Valley beat them 28-20 in week 1 and then United beat Laurel Valley 14-12 in the Appalachian Bowl.
Then Laurel Valley lost to Conemaugh Valley 35-6 in the District 6A Championship the next week to finish 9-2 that year.

Re: Going back
Back then, including 1992, the District 5 champ played the District 6 champ. So there may only have been 1 or 2 rounds of games at the district level. In 1991, a 6-6 Bedford team played an undefeated Forest Hills in a close game. FH went to the final 4 I believe. In 1992, Bedford beat Forest Hills and then Bedford lost to Fairview in the quarterfinals to finish 11-2.
In 1988 Bedford was 11-1 and 1989 11-0 and didn't qualify for playoffs either year.

Re: Going back
I don't think there were any "playoffs" then. Just the Championship games. Because Laurel Valley was already in it against Conemaugh Valley win or lose to United.

Re: Going back
Ok, but something doesn't add up because I remember United playing Forest Hills in a playoff game in 1991 in Ebensburg that was not the D6 Championship. So it seems something different happened in 1992.

You're correct there. 2 rounds in 1991. The structure was all over the place until 1994sasquatch260 wrote:Ok, but something doesn't add up because I remember United playing Forest Hills in a playoff game in 1991 in Ebensburg that was not the D6 Championship. That said wouldn't it be nice to have every game listed?Crimson's Ghost wrote:I actually reference the D6 site a lot, it's really well done. I would guess most districts don't even have that much.TAHS92Alum wrote:Hard to imagine that the WPIAL can go back to the beginning of time, and our district can't even have a playoff history since 1985, but we will.
Bill Murray perhaps you can publish it when I'm done? Not sure who is responsible for the god aweful D6 site

Thanks. Starting to get to the bottom of this now that I've wondered about it for about 25 years, lol.TAHS92Alum wrote:You're correct there. 2 rounds in 1991. One year Forest Hills played North Star at Home first round...that could be that 98 game as 5 and 6 were combined that year

Re: Going back
Several teams opted out of the district playoffs back then. Four teams made it.
