3 pretty big coaching openings heading into the offseason.

What happened to Sam at Township? Was it his decision or did something else happen?

Not sure, I had heard he was leaving after last season but stuck it out one more year. So it sounds like it was in the works for over a year now.

Sam’s retirement was reported in Wednesday’s Tribune Democrat

The last sentence of the article hints that although he will no longer be a head coach he is open to the returning as an assistant.

Did he retire from teaching or just the football job?

Just football, he'll still be teaching and coaching baseball.

Sam also predicted a co-op for Township football and many other local schools within the next 10 years.

Not sure what this is... can you explain the "co-op"?

Simply an agreement where schools come together for one sport.  Example, Berlin co-op with Rockwood with football.  Not sure if any Rockwood kids actually go over to play, but this is why Berlin is AA.

Sad to see such a long ride come to an end, but this will be a well earned break. Sam still remains my favorite coach that I never played for. Class act and a very nice guy that will always say hello. Good luck Sam!

Shade/Shanksville is another co-op. They play under the Shade name, but there are kids from both schools on the team.

He is predicting that it will be more common in the coming years and I do believe he’s right.
