Seems like so many games today are not really competitive. In 1994, FH played in the state championship and lost in double overtime. Here were FH's regular season scores.
...1) FH 34-Somerset 12
...2) FH 18-VoTech 0
...3) FH 41-Chestnut Ridge 21
...4) Bedford 8-FH 0
...5) FH 26-Westmont 18
...6) FH 29-Ligonier 7
...7) FH 42-Richland 12
...8) FH 41- CC 8 (even with Randy McKavish at QB)
...9) FH 29- CH 0
...Considering that FH was a state calibre team then, blow-outs like 67-0 and 54-7 were unusual. Most of the games just mentioned were relativelycompetitive till the end, and there was no running clock in those days. Now, most conferences have a few really good teams which destroy the others. Hard to watch some of these games.

I think there are a couple of things at play. There used to be more kids out/higher populations. More kids means that I think the teams were more even, I think it was probably uncommon to see a team of 50 play a team of 18. Film review and training techniques have changed a lot as well and offenses are also more dimensional. All of these make it easier to expose or exploit a weakness. Game is much more pass heavy which leads to quick scores and more clock stoppages, which lengthens games and runs the scores up. Just a lot of factorsEl-Moldo wrote:Seems like so many games today are not really competitive. In 1994, FH played in the state championship and lost in double overtime.
