District champion to state finalist

Post by EnzoLigoniere »

What is the special component that takes a team from being a district champion to a state finalist. In particular the district 6 teams that we have seen make the state final over the years to include Tyrone, Forest Hills, BG, BC

What quality did those teams possess that made them special, Was it the office of line, outstanding play makers call my defense, quarterback play

And where does Luck of the draw Fit into the picture

Well besides a stud like that. It takes a whole team to make it to states. There is no luck of the draw when you hit the state tournament your playing the best of the best. Plus while he has been at Tyrone coach Franco has done amazing jobs in games and over the seasons. The 96 team never gave up and out conditioned teams in the 4th quarter to make it to the title game. 99 the loss to United the year before fueled the whole season. 2011 was heart they wanted it more then the other teams. Plus all 3 teams were talented up and down the roster.

The BC team that lost in the finals to SC had two studs in Todd Koenig and Paul Forcellini.
But it was their team attitude that seemed to make them special.

However they might not have been as talented as the Crookshank and Schilling led teams the two years before.

But a stud like Jesse Jones can be the icing on the cake. Especially when he moves into the school district.

I saw the 2009 McCort team play a lot:

-- They were mostly all seniors
-- They were well coached
-- The line was very good on both sides
-- multiple players that could make big plays

Evertbody is forgetting the Number 1 thing you need to be a state champion, at least in A and AA. That is a big recruiting budget.

I guess this would be true if A and AA was dominated by private schools but they aren’t

I really felt that the 2016 LV team led by Colin Smith was going to states, on paper they had all the pieces of the puzzle. They just ran into a better team , so I would say luck of the draw.

However looking at BG, I can't remember who was qb on any of those teams but that line was dominant and to further that, they lost Chadbourne and it did not matter, that line was so dominant, they didn't miss a beat.
