Re: Bishop Carroll cancels football
It's apparently a PIAA rule.

Re: Bishop Carroll cancels football
Anyone know how the pro-rated numbers work with mergers?
Thanks!

In the Football special today, Penna seemed to suggest that it was up to D5 as to whether they can compete for a district title this year.

"The co-op would bump up Bishop McCort’s classification in football from Class 1A to 2A. In past years, such co-ops would not be approved by the PIAA Board of Directors, but due to recent trends regarding lower turnout, the governing body of Pennsylvania scholastic sports has allowed such co-ops with the stipulation that a school may not participate in the playoffs should a co-op result in a move to a higher classification during a particular scheduling cycle.

I did not know it was a PIAA rule. With that I apologize and admit I am wrong.
Re: Bishop Carroll cancels football
With that said that is a stupid rule. Why does it matter if they come open vs merge? When Ford City and Kittaning merged Armstrong was eligible for post season that year.

Hasn't Berlin participated in the playoffs every year since taking on the Rockwood kids?

Their first year may not have been in the middle of a cycle

I read it as because it’s happening mid-cycle. If the co-op were to continue into next year then it would be approved for the playoffs.
