Best d6 Football Teams Ever

Post by Goldeneagles12 »

The other post of best defenses got me thinking. What are peoples choices for the best teams ever from d6 in each classification.

Don't remember the years, but: Franco's state title team. The BC state title team. McCort's powerhouse teams. FH won over 100 games in the 90's and the 76 team only gave up 6 points all year.
It ain't over until it's over.

Obviously I'd say the 99 Tyrone team. Forest Hills in 94 were an eyelash away from a state title. I'd put Altoona in 00 in there went to I believe double ot with Erie Prep who went on to win the gold.

In all honesty, the BC team that made it to the state game was not as good as the two years previously, but those teams ran into a much better western final team in Rochester.

BG 2015 didn't have a single close game in their 16-0 season.

The FH 1996 team was state championship material, but the loss of their QB Matt Danel in game 8 (only played 9 game in those days) ended their hopes. Finished 11-1. Lone loss to Tyrone in the playoffs.

Moldo, how do you rank the Brandon Bailey Ranger team vs the 1996 team vs the 1993 team that lost to Washington vs the 1994 that lost the state final? Always comes up after a Ranger game when having a beer at the Tavern

That's a lot of good teams in that short of a span. That 96 game was kinda like the baton being handed off from FH to Tyrone. FH dominated the early 90s Tyrone the late 90s. Two great programs wish they were still the same classification always enjoyed pretty much every year playing in the playoffs.

....Tyrone had Marcus Owens at RB. He was good. When Matt Danel was hurt during FH's 14-13 win at McCort in game 8 of the 1996 season, a TRUE Freshman QB stepped in to finish the season. FH beat PC in game 9 and United 10-6 in the first round of districts on a muddy FH field. It was just too much to ask a freshman to lead FH over Tyrone at Mansion Park the next game.
....In 1991, Brandon Bailey and Tim Baumgardner set the tone for the season. FH as very good. Bailey went to WVU and Baumgardner played at Fordham a year later. The real disappointment over the years was the 1998 team. Undefeated in the regular season, they lost to United in the playoffs the week after United beat Tyrone. Lots of good football in the '90's.
