Player misses practice

Post by HSD6FAN »

First of all, academics must come first. If a player misses a practice due to college visits, academic testing, tutoring, etc. a coach needs to use discrepancy when deciding the outcome of playing time.

The coach also needs to have clauses in the rules that allow players to miss practice and not be punished on game day. Funerals, family matters, etc.

Is the kid a repeat offender? If so, their excuse for missing probably is not justifiable.

For sickness, if there was a game being played that day, would they have made the attempt to be at school and made every effort to play? Too many times kids are sitting out or taking off practices because it’s practice. If it was a game, they would be “healthy” enough to play more times than not.

Set the standard from day one. Your attendance is expected at practice. Certain situations require attention, but the team needs to see everyone is committed. How can others be held accountable if the star athlete is allowed to come and go as they please from practice?
