No more Hershey

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

The PIAA Football state championships will be at Cumberland Valley HS for the next four years.

They got the bid over HersheyPark Stadium, Mansion Park, and Penn State.

Do the people that run these tournaments even know where the Centre of the state is? It should always be at mansion park. Maybe they would actually get more ppl at the game.

Eh, the majority of the state lives in Southeastern PA. The location of keeping the game near Harrisburg off the turnpike isn’t the issue IMO. Just sort of feels small time to play the games at a high school field, also the high school field where the PIAA headquarters is located.

Been going to the championships for the last 7-8 years. While the majority of the state does live in SE PA that’s not where a majority of the fans are coming from. St Joes has brought in some average size crowds and Imhotep brings 15-20 people per year however most of the fans come from D7 and D3. State College and Mansion Park would’ve been a more desirable location based on people I’ve spoken to. Keeping the game at Hershey for me would’ve been a decent but not great decision. CV in my opinion is the worst of those 4 options. But the closest to the piaa headquarters so that’s how decisions get made. That and someone making the decision has a buddy or a relative on the school board or in the administration at CV.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it still a grass field?

It would have been awesome to have it back at Mansion, but I can understand why they didn’t choose there…the parking is atrocious!

Would the games have been held at Beaver Stadium or State College High School?

It said Penn State not State College, I took that as Beaver Stadium.

The games should be played at Fannett Metal High School. That’s about the midpoint of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
