Schools with 5,6,7 wins on the season, have absolutely no business being in a playoff, or hope of winning, against top seeded teams.
It ain't over until it's over.

I believe this is partially a byproduct of 6 classifications and won't be going away any time soon. It is especially pronounced in single-A this year with the top two seeds head and shoulders above the other teams (both boys and girls). On the bright side, it gives those struggling teams a week or two of extra practice to help develop the underclassmen.

I was looking at the single A standings to check out the teams that are near the top and I saw that Elk County Catholic beat Curwensville 64-4....anyone have the scoop on this? I read the story online and it just said they held them to 4 foul shots. No field goals made. Curwensville is not a very good team this year, but they do have a couple wins.
If only closed minds came with closed mouths

Agreed, district playoffs have become a joke. Any team with a losing record in conference play should be ineligible for districts. Sadly this won't happen and we continue to get these HORRIBLE early round match-ups.

It reminds me of the NHL in the early 80's when everyone made the playoffs except the Penguins!!

They actually changed the format to make it somewhat better than it was before. Before it used to be an 'open' tournament and if you were 0-22, you absolutely could join the playoffs and teams did just that sometimes.

Now you at least have to 'make' the playoffs and they cut the number off in each classification. So the problem isn't so much the format of the playoffs, it's that we have one too many classes in the PIAA thus watering down the brackets. I think they should drop it down to five classes as soon as they can.
