Any idea who would be pitching for forest hills? I only live 15 mins from fox chapel school and would like to go up and catch the game.

Cecere went 4 innings yesterday, if he was under 75 pitches he'll have a clean slate to throw on Thursday.

With that question comes a topic of conversation, I wonder what everyone thinks about how to use your pitching in the postseason. The state tournament, weather permitting, is 2 weeks.  Monday, Thursday and Monday -Thursday/Friday.


You look at a lot of the scores and the games are generally low scoring from yesterday and today.  A lot of 1-0, 2-1 type scores.  At this point everyone has one good pitcher, in most cases 2 good pitchers.


So in round one, do you give your #1 pitcher the ball, and let him throw as much as possible and try to secure the win with your best?   Or do you maybe start your #2 and either let him go and take the chance, or pull him before 75 pitches and let your ace finish the game?


Winning the game at hand should always be the focus, but having an eye on the next round is something to consider as well.  That's a tough line to distinguish.  



I just happened to notice this, because seemingly Forest Hills and McCort threw their #2 for three innings, and brought in their best pitcher to close the game.   And with that, they have both pitchers for the next round I would think if they watched the pitch count.  It's definitely a chess game for head coaches.

FH and BM do both indeed have all arms available for Thursday.

Riverside gambled today and did not throw their ace at all and squeaked out a 5-4 win. Expect Central to see him Thursday.

Wehner is the Sr. who's carried them all season.  Cecere's promise is his future.  He's only a soph.  I'd look for BOTH to be ready to throw.  Probably same lineup as Monday's game, more or less.

Even following the pitch count rules, the question is how effective will a kid be if he has one or two days rest.  A kid throwing 75 and then getting two days off isn't a guarantee he will be 100%.  There is a reason why professional pitchers aren't used in this fashion. The old adage still applies - you can only ride a horse for so long...  Which is why there are finally pitch count rules in place.  

There are a few ways you could go about it, but my first preference is to use each kid a little so that you have more than one option each game.  If you can develop a staff you can have lights out every game and not just when the "ace" is on the hill.  That way if a kid isn't on his game, you still have experienced options and can bring him back sooner next time.

Nice!  Glad to hear it. McCort beat Riverside 1-0 last year, they have some good pitchers.
