2018 Pony League baseball

Post by ERAChamp »

Big news on the city PONY league.  The Boilers dynasty is over.  They have informed their current players that they are NOT going to field a team in PONY next year.  There will be a new league champ next year.  I am sure there are many factors as to why they are quitting the league, but it was one heck of a run.
An interesting note, PONY has yet to decide if they are going to follow the new little league age guidelines or not.  I believe PONY international will vote on this in September.  If they do decide to follow LL age guidelines, this would have BIG ramifications in PONY as it would all but eliminate high school freshman from playing PONY.  Personally, I hope they do follow LL and adopt the age guidelines.

Kinda old news? A week or more ago it was in the TD about the coaches wanting to step away. Unless new ones were forthcoming, no need for the sponsor to continue.
It ain't over until it's over.

I don't know if the age issue is funny or sad... In my day it was more impressive to play up rather than to play "down" and dominate.  14 and 15 year old kids proving they can handle legion ball will always be more impressive than those same kids beating up on 13 yr olds.  My how times have changed!!!

Does legion take 14 year olds?

Either way, legion doesn't seem to big a big deal in Johnstown. The best players immediately in Johnstown play in the city league anyway.

Legion has no lower age limit. Johnstown's competitive issue has always been that the league doesn't have a players draft. Splitting up kids equally leads to a better competitive balance and allows all kids to improve. Simply loading up one team does nothing for those kids in the long run.

Except take away their choice of coach during a pivotal period in their development as a player.

Too bad more parents aren't as concerned with their kids' academics as they are for their future career in the MLB

At least six schools had help wanted ads for teachers or administrators in Sunday's Tribune Democrat just days before the start of the school year.  I'm sure all schools had its football coach hired by then.
